R&D Technician

THE ROLE

In this role, you supporting the OLIPOP R&D team in the development of new products and continuous improvement projects. This includes creating benchtop prototypes and executing experiments for analytical, sensory, and stability testing. The R&D Technician will be responsible for OLIPOP lab support including - product testing, inventory management, new product formulation, shelf-life studies, equipment calibration and maintenance.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• With the supervision of the R&D Scientist, create benchtop prototypes of new product formulations, and prepare samples for sensory evaluations and analytical testing. 
• Test and record results from new product formulations, experiments and provide analysis to the R&D team. Conduct laboratory tests including Brix, pH, carbonation, other attributes as needed.
• Perform sensory analysis to assess product performance and quality. 
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experiments and results.
• Work closely with the R&D team to evaluate the use of new ingredients and suppliers in existing formulations.
• Work in collaboration with QA Technician to manage on-going product studies (coordinate shipping for samples, recording results when received, schedule product tastings).
• Send, track and receive packages to and from the OLIPOP lab.
• Perform proper maintenance and calibration of lab equipment.
• Maintain inventory and documentation for ingredients, finished product samples, and lab supplies.
• Ensure the laboratory areas are clean, organized, and well-maintained.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• This position is on site at the OLIPOP lab in the San Francisco Bay Area, 5 days a week. 
• 1 - 3 years of experience in R&D, Quality, Food Manufacturing or other related functions.
• Knowledge of sensory evaluation methods and standards.
• Ability to interpret sensory information and identify differences between product samples and established controls.
• Experience working in a lab environment.
• Ability to organize high volumes of projects and manage multiple deadlines.
• Experience presenting large amounts of data in a concise and actionable manner.
• Transparent, open/honest communicator - a great listener who can work independently while keeping other team members informed.
• Independent - this position will require personal motivation without direct supervision and consistent effort to ensure deadlines are met.
• Strong attention to detail, hard work ethic, ability to work well with others and highly organized.

COMPENSATION:

$70,000-$75,000 annual salary + bonus
