Prenetics is looking for a highly motivated bioinformatics scientist to join our bioinformatics team. In this role you will be responsible for developing novel bioinformatics solutions for analyzing NGS data related to clinical and consumer genetic tests that involve NGS sequencing. You will also be responsible for supporting the clinical and bioinformatics teams to manage the queries. This work is interdisciplinary and involves collaboration with lab scientists, R&D scientists, software engineers and the bioinformatics team. You will have ample opportunity to significantly contribute to the development of our evolving technologies.

Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and test the bioinformatics pipelines related to clinical genetics
• Manage the NGS pipeline, including maintenance and operations.
• Work with engineering team to manage bioinformatics workflows.
• Work with wet lab scientists, clinical scientists and software engineers to develop novel bioinformatics solutions.
• Provide Bioinformatics support to existing products.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or bioinformatics with at least 2 years of experience working in the industry, particularly handling next generation sequencing data is preferred
• 2+ year of experience with variety of NGS bioinformatics tools - GATK, samtools, deepvariant, bwa etc.

• Strong experience in analyzing NGS data
• Eagerness in taking ownership of day-to-day production and support operations
• Strong experience and detailed understanding of the statistical and algorithmic workings of modern variant calling packages
• Preferred: Experience using statistical computer language (R, Python, SQL, etc) to manipulate NGS data and draw insights
• Preferred: Hands-on experience with databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL)
• Preferred: Strong understanding of the laboratory practices
• A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques
