At Magna Electronics, we are at the forefront of developing and manufacturing cutting-edge products such as cameras, radar, and other sensors for modern vehicles. Our mission is to lead the way in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and the future of autonomous cars.

A thesis internship at Magna offers students the opportunity to delve into a high-tech automotive company. Throughout your internship, you will receive mentorship and guidance, allowing you to apply your theoretical knowledge to practical, real-world scenarios.

Subject: Design and implementation of a focusing-mask test method for automotive camera assessment

Background:
Focusing masks are phase and amplitude modulators at the Fourier plane of an imaging system. The resulting diffractive pattern from a coherent source provides a robust signal for either focusing an imaging system or for measuring its defocus with very high precision. Traditionally these techniques stem from astronomy but can be miniaturized to suffice needs for modern small cameras such as those in automotive cameras produced and tested at Magna.

Purpose:
Develop, implement and test such a novel miniaturized application of focusing masks for small automotive cameras. By using coherent imaging techniques, the defocusing of some test cameras shall be assessed in changing environmental conditions with sub-micron precision.

Field:
Applied optics

Learning objectives:
Valuable training in working with precision optics, wavefront control, lasers, and receive insight into the complexity of modern optical testing and ISO standards. But also acquire valuable industry and product-driven research experience with direct impact on production and future prototype assessment.

Number of student(s): 1-2

Extent: 30 credits (Master)

Start: Spring 2025

Location: Linköping

Contact information and Supervisors:
Dr Matthias Burza, matthias.burza@magna.com,
Johan Lilja, johan.lilja@magna.com

Last application date: 2024-10-31, applications will be evaluated continuously.

•
