More recently, we announced a partnership with Dwelling Place to help address the affordable housing crisis here in Holland. In July 2023, we publicly launched our expansion of Lakeshore Food Rescue (www.lakeshorefoodrescue.org).

Position Details
Position Type: Part-time, Regular, 24 hours/week
Overtime Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Assistant Manager, Resale
Direct Reports: none
Department: Resale Store
Primary Location: Resale Store
Compensation & Benefits: $15-$16 hourly

Summary

The Resale Associate will support daily operations and teamwork at the Resale Store. The Associate will build relationships with donors, volunteers, and guests while managing operations efficiently. Your tasks include sorting, stocking, and pricing items, adhering to donation policies, and creating a welcoming atmosphere. Key duties involve collaborating with team members, handling sales transactions, maintaining store cleanliness, providing information about the Resale Store and Community Action House services, and upholding organizational standards for a positive work environment.

Responsibilities & Essential Duties

  • Cultivate relationships with donors, volunteers & guests.
  • Understand and comply with the policies and procedures of the Resale Store and Community Action House.
  • Independently perform daily tasks and processes such as accepting donations, sorting, stocking, pricing, merchandising, and greeting guests.
  • Evaluate the usefulness of donated items for resale, repair, repurposing, and recycling based upon established processing guidelines.
  • Achieve goals by completing daily, weekly, and monthly Store operation tasks.
  • Contribute to a healthy, productive, and supportive work environment.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve store objectives and improve efficiency.
  • Promote Community Action House's mission and opportunities to give in-kind and financially.
  • Communicate store policies with guests.
  • Escalate guest complaints to an appropriate staff member or supervisor.
  • Operate point of sale (POS) system and handle cash.
  • Answer general questions about the Resale Store and Community Action House services and programs.
  • Maintains cleanliness and tidiness of all public and team-only spaces in the Resale Store.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

  • Specific Direction: Receives detailed work instructions or guidance for performing repetitive tasks. Supervisor monitors progress and provides feedback or correction as needed to ensure that tasks are completed according to expectations.

Education & Experience

  • No prior experience required 
  • No supervisory experience required
  • High School Diploma required; or in place of a degree, equivalent years of experience
  • Bilingual Spanish proficiency preferred

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in retail or customer service, preferred.
  • Technology skills proficient to operate retail and office technology such as POS systems, printers, and copiers.
  • Familiarity with GSuite applications including Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar, and Email.
  • Ability to anticipate and fulfill customer needs.

  • Occasionally operate machines: Pallet Jack, Compactor
  • Continuously ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds

  • Evening hours regularly, on a rotating schedule
  • Weekend hours regularly, on a rotating schedule
