The Loan Underwriter performs a detailed credit analysis of a borrower. He/she looks at various factors such as employment record, income sources, credit score, payment history and financial ratios, such as debt-to-income as critical factors in rendering a decision on each loan. Overall, the loan underwriter analyzes each loan application to determine the credit quality and ensuring conformance with investor programs and guidelines. All of these factors give the loan underwriter the ability to provide proper guidelines for the successful origination and sale of the loan.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Following investor guidelines, receive and review loan applications and documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy
Provide support to processors and loan officers in structuring loan deals and if necessary, rework loan to new terms or identify additional conditions
Verify financial ratios and credit reports ensuring completeness of application information
Analyze appraisals, credit reports and associated documentation, ensuring proper qualification according to Company guidelines.
Input accurate credit decisions into the LOS/AUS
Multi task in a fast paced environment
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 5 years mortgage underwriting experience
Experience using LP, DO/DU and other AUS
Comprehensive knowledge of FHA/ Client/FHLMC guidelines and standards VA a plus
Encompass experience a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications
Ability to review, analyze and calculate qualifying income documentation from personal and business tax returns, property , credit, and assets/cash to close
Ability to manage priorities and workflow
Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
Ability to build and sustain relationships with staff and branch personnel
Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
