Turning Space into a Transportation Layer for Earth
Who We Are:
Eras of humanity can often be defined by a dominant transportation mode - horse drawn chariots, ocean going boats, or aircraft. These were spurred by a small group of people rigorously focused on building technology to achieve faster access to more of the world. We seek to usher in a new era of humanity defined by universal access to the whole globe free of borders and the presence of a routine way from space to Earth. To do this, we are building highly maneuverable re-entry vehicles that can loiter in orbit before precision landing back on Earth.
What You’ll Do:
As a Full Stack Software Engineer at Inversion, you’ll be more than just a developer—you’ll be the architect of the tools that power the future of space travel. You will not only design and maintain internal tools, but you will be directly contributing to the seamless execution of critical space missions, ensuring our systems and teams are equipped for success. Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams to build intuitive software that powers the infrastructure behind space re-entry vehicles, revolutionizing global access to space.
- Design, develop, and own internal tools for engineering teams from scratch with a focus on user experience, scalability, and performance.
- Maintain existing tools and suggest architectural improvements for future development.
- Assist with the growth and development of the software organization, including conducting interviews and mentoring/onboarding other engineers and interns.
- We’re a mission-driven team passionate about pushing the limits of space exploration. While there may be moments when the excitement calls for extended hours or weekend work, we prioritize creating an environment where our engineers feel inspired, supported, and constantly challenged to grow.
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of full-stack development experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, building impactful, scalable software in dynamic environments.
- Proven expertise in front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript with frameworks like React, Angular, Vue) and back-end languages (Python, Java, Go, or Node.js).
- Proven ability to quickly understand complex problems and architect solutions that are efficient, scalable, and easy to maintain.
- Strong focus on designing intuitive user interfaces with an emphasis on user experience.
- Strong understanding of databases, database optimizations, and the differences between types of databases.
- Familiarity with good dev-ops practices and deployment strategies on Linux servers, including CI/CD pipelines and Docker.
- Comfortable using git for version control and code review.
- A growth mindset with a passion for learning and exploring new technologies that can enhance product efficiency and capability.
- A keen interest in the space industry and excitement about working in a fast-paced, pioneering startup environment.
- Our office headquarters is located in Torrance, CA. All jobs require you to work onsite unless otherwise stated in the job description.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience deploying and managing high-availability systems using Kubernetes, virtual machines, or cloud-based platforms, ensuring our infrastructure scales with the demands of space travel.
- Familiarity with newer web technologies, such as desktop runtime environments, web assembly and/or the Rust programming language.
- Familiarity with developing a Linux operating system.
- Prior experience working in startups and small independent teams. Extra points if you’ve worked in the space industry!
