About the Role:

The Ad Experience team at The New York Times is looking for an Android Engineer. You will work across multiple Android applications to deliver consistent advertising experiences.  You will work with designers, Product Managers, and other engineers providing a critical revenue stream to support The New York Times’ mission of seeking the truth and helping people understand the world.

This is an opportunity to use a wide variety of tools across all The New York Times Android Apps (News, Cooking, Games, The Athletic), ranging from Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, hybrid web technologies and advertising technologies. You’ll be part of an engineering organization that values transparency and openness, diversity, learning, community, and continuous improvement.

This is a hybrid role based in our New York City Headquarters. You will report to the Engineering Manager, Ad Experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain features using Kotlin
  • Contribute to app architectural decisions and timeline estimations
  • Participate in discussions with a variety of partners
  • Integrate and improve ad related code across apps, which may be at least partially written or have dependencies written in Java

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of full-time experience as an Android Engineer
  • 2+ years of Android Kotlin experience, including writing unit tests, and UI
  • 2+ years of experience working with Agile software development methodologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience with coroutines and Jetpack Compose
  • 1+ years of experience working with UI that adapts to different screen sizes
  • 1+ years of experience with Webviews
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs and GraphQL
  • Familiarity with Advertising terms and technology

This role will require limited on-call hours. An on-call schedule will be determined when you join, taking into account team size and other variables.

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$104,000$130,000 USD
