BUSINESS CONTINUITY MANAGER

West Tech Shipping currently operates in ten (10) countries across the Caribbean and South America. Our ventures into new locations since first launching in St. Lucia have been diverse, with varying paces of growth and unique operational demands. We have therefore recognized the need for a versatile team member capable of learning and contributing across all aspects of our operations.

The Business Continuity Manager is a dynamic and innovative individual, who is a critical contributor to our expansion strategy. As such, this individual will be cross-trained in various functions, thereby equipping them with the knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively provide essential ground support to all of our locations as needed. This role is of particularly importance to maintaining high standards of operation in the absence of Country and Location Managers, thereby ensuring business continuity.

As this is a cross-functional role, it is also critical that the Business Continuity Manager be committed to championing our mission of world-class customer service, through compliance with company standards.

JOB DUTIES

  1. Cross-Functional Training:
    1. Learn and understand all aspects of our operations, including Customer Service, Logistics/Bonds, Issuing Advisories/FB support, Cash Management, Contact Center Support, and any other areas deemed necessary.
    2. Acquire a comprehensive understanding of West Tech Shipping's vision, work ethic, and operational standards.
  2. On-the-Ground Support:
    1. Provide support and assistance across the local/regional network, during the absence of managers for various reasons, including medical, and vacation leave.
    2. Respond to and address issues locally, ensuring a smooth operation and adherence to company's standards.
    3. Act as a liaison between the local team and senior management to ensure seamless communication and problem resolution.
    4. Collaborate with different departments to streamline processes and improve overall efficiency.
    5. Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to various operational challenges and provide effective solutions.
  3. Location Opening and Staff Recruitment:
    1. Gain the skills to open a new location, including the recruitment of staff through partnership with the Regional HR Manager.
    2. Provide valuable input on whether additional management support is needed during the initial stages of a new location.
  4. Intellectual Contribution:
    1. Develop solid intel on the operational dynamics of various locations, offering insights on improvements and efficiencies for strategic decision-making.
    2. Contribute to strategic decision-making by providing valuable on-the-ground perspectives.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    1. Collaborate with managers and other team members to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
    2. Facilitate smooth transitions during handovers between senior managers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Logistics, or a related field
  • At least 2 years recent experience in a management or senior-supervisory role within a reputable organization
  • Solid business acumen
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Highly adaptable with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt to various roles
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Flexible, with a willingness to travel and work in different locations as needed
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

TRAINING PERIOD

The Business Continuity Manager will undergo an intensive training period, with the aim of learning and mastering each function of our operations on the island of St. Lucia, before deployment to our new and existing locations, across the Caribbean.

CAREER PROGRESSION

Upon successful completion of the cross-utilization period, the Business Continuity Manager will have the potential to step into a managerial role, capable of opening new locations, and contributing to the overall growth and success of West Tech Shipping.
