Staff Android Engineer

Oura is looking for a Staff Android Engineer to join Oura in Finland in Helsinki, Oulu or remote.

Our engineering organization consists of many talented Android and iOS app developers distributed across the EU and US. For day-to-day roadmap work, our engineers are organized into smaller cross-functional feature squads or teams where they have a great deal of autonomy and are responsible for the development and architecture of their features. Squads take full ownership of their code and handle everything from concepting, design and implementation to release, maintenance and bug fixes

In this role you will:

• Design, build and deliver features to Oura Application end users using native code (Kotlin)
• Act as a senior member of the engineering team and work with other engineers to make our app experience & architecture even better
• Push our products forward by closely aligning with PMs and Designers
• Collaborate with other teams such as firmware, data, backend, and science to implement new solutions to our members
• Constantly learn new technologies and scale them across our engineering organization 
• Participate in bottom-up innovation during your everyday work and dive even deeper in official hackweeks. 

We would love to have you on our team if you have the following:

• 8+ years of professional software development experience, and significant experience in building Android applications
• Strong experience with modern Kotlin and common third-party Android libraries
• Collaborative development experience working asynchronously across distributed engineering teams in different countries/time zones
• Ability to take ownership of the features - including the design, implementation and the operations 
• Pragmatic can-do attitude; shipping working software and elevating your colleagues bring you joy
• Proficiency with git and collaborative code review processes
• Passion for the little things in both engineering and UX
• Affinity for agile methodology and driving excellence in process
• Focus on quality through unit tests and manual feature testing

We also appreciate if you have experience with:

• Team and project lead experience
• Variety of architectures and design patterns
• Mentoring more junior team members
• Low level programming and/or working with algorithms 
• RxJava or Coroutines/Flow for reactive programming
• Jetpack Compose
• Functional programming
