A Day in the Life:
-Perform engineering assignments with clear and specified objectives, involving conventional types of plans and specifications, related to the architectural cladding industry.
-Engages in analysis and computations necessary to execute assignments in accordance with standard formulas, tables, etc. as required.
-Provides internal structural reviews of shop drawings against project specifications and applicable codes and provides feedback and advises drafting on structural information as required.
-Prepare submission copy of window/ curtain wall calculations for professional engineer's stamp. This may include the following:
-Wind load analysis and/ or evaluation of wind load studies by 3rd parties
-Strength and stiffness of system components
-Analysis of anchors, embeds and fasteners
-Evaluate, as required, system mock-ups for structural behavior against performance.
-Develop, as necessary, automated calculation worksheets for analysis and design of different system components, continuous beam analysis and anchor systems as required to facilitate routine and repetitive functions.
-Clear understanding of the National Building Code of Canada as it relates to structural requirements.
-Carry out site visits and evaluate actual system structural performance as required
-May supervise or coordinate the work of other technical support personnel.
What You Bring:
-University degree in Civil or Structural engineering or equivalent work experience.
-Proficient with computer aided software such as MS Office and AutoCad.
-Knowledge of load calculations, building envelope science, rain screen principal and curtain wall systems.
-Knowledge and use of Structural programs i.e. SAP 2000.
-Understanding of North American Codes and Standards related to the Architectural Cladding Industry, i.e. NBCC, OBC, AAMA, CSA A440 and CSA S157.
-Strong communication skills.
