The Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSO) Skill Level 3 will join a team of 5+ similar individuals.
Due to federal contract requirements, United States Citizenship and position appropriate security clearance is required. (e.g. Active TS/SCI security clearance with agency appropriate polygraph).
Capabilities
- Responsible for ensuring all 60+ SSPs gain/maintain an Approval to Operate. Work closely with the system team to formulate a plan to create/update documentation and drawings, perform system self-testing, resolve POA&Ms, review scan results, path system components, etc., IAW RMF processes.
- Responsible for ensuring compliancy of the mandatory STE/STN attributes by continuously monitoring all SSPs in an effort to detect and correct areas of security non-compliance to include updating/submitting Civet tickets prior to expiration of any attribute that requires manual verification and validation.
- Review and acknowledge SEAR audit logs on weekly basis IAW CNSSI 1253. Reviews are conducted to uncover and/or isolate indications of inappropriate or unusual activity and if an activity meets a certain threshold, report via Computer Security Incident Report (CSIR).
- Review/address alerts on a weekly basis. Alerts consist of events such as duplicate IP addresses, PRIVAC expirations, overdue POA&Ms, SSP expirations etc.
- The ISSO is tasked with updating and maintaining Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAs) in the database tool. ISSOs work closely with system team personnel and the ISSM to ensure all IAVAs properly managed, to include identifying applicable and impacted assets, patching status and creating POA&Ms for all alerts that exceed the mandated compliance suspense date.
- Perform hardware and software inventory updates, via the tool and the ticketing system.
- Add or remove entitlements;
- Review and take actions on PKI certificate renewal requests;
- Review and respond to tickets;
- Conduct checkouts for personnel departing from the agency.
Required Qualifications
- TS/SCI with agency appropriate poly
- Fifteen (15) years’ experience as an ISSO on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
- Experience is to include at least three (3) of the following areas: knowledge of current security tools, hardware/software security implementation; communication protocols; and encryption techniques/tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security System Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
- DoD 8570 compliance with Information Assurance Management (IAM) level 1 or higher is required.
- Four (4) years of additional ISSE experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
