LCPS Occupational Therapist

Competencies and Qualifications

Lighthouse Community Charter School is looking for an Occupational Therapist who is relentlessly committed to ensuring that traditionally underserved students achieve our mission of completing college and securing the career of choice. Lighthouse staff believe that this important mission is not only attainable; it is essential to transforming our Oakland community. The Occupational Therapist will be an integral part of our Special Education Program.

Roles and Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct occupational therapy evaluations for initial or triennial evaluations (including selecting appropriate instruments, administering tests, observing, and writing a report) and interpret results to parents, teachers, and administrators

  • Provide recommendations to the individualized education plan (IEP) team regarding eligibility pursuant to California Education Code, goals, accommodations, modifications, and services

  • Provide direct, individual and/or small group occupational therapy to students inside or outside of the general education setting

  • Collaborate with the general education and special education teachers, as well as other service providers, to support fine/gross motor and sensory needs across all settings and encourage the generalization of skills

  • Monitor and evaluate equipment needs; order and adjust equipment to assist the student

  • Visit students’ educational environments to assess adaptive equipment needs to allow eligible individuals to participate in educationally-relevant activities

  • Partner with families to share strategies and recommendations for how to support goals in the home

  • Collect data on students’ progress in order to adjust support and instruction

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in the multi-tiered systems of supports through providing observation and recommendations, screening students, and/or providing therapy through a response to intervention model

  • Participate in special education team meetings to support alignment across the program

  • Create and maintain, records, files, and reports as required by federal, state, and SELPA regulations

  • Maintain knowledge of current regulations pertaining to special education and participate in professional development to keep abreast of best practices and other relevant content

  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, LCPS mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior

  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or equivalent in occupational therapy from an accredited educational institution

  • Valid license with the California Board of Occupational Therapy

  • Registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association, preferred

  • 2+ years as an Occupational Therapist, preferably in a school setting

  • Knowledge of El Dorado Charter SELPA and SEIS, preferred

  • Spanish fluency, preferred


SUPERVISION

This position reports to: Senior Director of Special Education.


TIME COMMITMENT

This position is .8 FTE (part-time exempt) with some flexibility in schedule depending on interest and availability (with possibility to add more hours to get to full-time during this year to provide catch up service minutes for the year) and follows a 10-month work year (190 days) with significant student-free days for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues and interaction with families.

Common Building Hours: All teachers are expected to maintain hours of 8:00 - 4:00 pm M, Tu, Th, Fri and 8:00-5:00 on Wednesdays for Professional Development.


OUR COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

At Lighthouse Community Public Schools we take good care of our employees. We provide a competitive compensation and benefits package, including a competitive salary and generous health and retirement benefits (100% employee health coverage for staff at .75FT+ (75% coverage for staff at .6-.74FTE/50% for dependents; 8% employer-matching for retirement program; medical and dependent FSA). Hiring bonus of $5,000 available for OT roles!

Salary range: $85,000-120,000 at full-time. Salaries at part-time FTE are pro-rated based on FTE. At .8FTE the salary range for this position is $68,000-96,000.
