Join our team as a Transportation Design Engineer, dedicated to solving complex transportation challenges and developing engineering Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) for traffic and multimodal projects, including complete streets improvements, traffic signals, intelligent transportation solutions (ITS), lighting and illumination, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, transit access and speed/reliability improvements, temporary traffic control, and signing/striping plans.
In our collaborative environment, you’ll gain experience with software such as AutoCAD and Microstation, Synchro/SimTraffic, Bluebeam, AGi32, and ProjectWise, while benefiting from the support of our companywide Engineering Discipline Group, focused on advancing capabilities and skills. You’ll develop project management skills through experience in the full life cycle of a project including citywide planning, project scoping, design, and construction support, and supporting state and local agencies implementing multimodal infrastructure improvements, policies, and plans. Responsibilities
- Provide support for planning and feasibility activities by developing concept designs and planning level cost estimates
- Develop and analyze design alternatives for traffic engineering projects
- Conduct field visits to review existing conditions and design constraints
- Prepare design plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates
- Provide design support during construction (requests for information, contractor submittals, etc.)
- Effectively communicate engineering concepts in memos, reports, and project meetings
- Collaborate with a diverse set of professionals including planners, engineers, technicians, analysists, and data scientists
- Work under the guidance of professional engineers to gain experience that counts towards state licensing requirements for the P.E. exam
Qualifications (We encourage all applicants to apply, even if you don't meet all of the qualifications listed below)
- Bachelor's or master's degree in transportation, civil engineering, or a related field
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months
- Work experience and/or completion of significant project coursework in traffic engineering design or related transportation design experience
- Exceptional technical writing and public speaking skills
- Work experience and/or coursework with software such as AutoCAD and/or Microstation (highly desirable)
