About the role

Elemental is seeking a Senior Dealflow Manager to join our portfolio team. The Portfolio team is a highly collaborative and dynamic team within the organization that is ultimately responsible for meeting our commitment to bring more funding, projects, solutions and impact into the climate sector and to deploy technologies in more communities in an equitable way.

In this role, you will drive the strategy and operations for recruiting and selecting the top climate tech and social equity entrepreneurs globally. In addition to managing the outreach and application process for prospective companies, you will design and organize the due diligence process to help Elemental select the most impactful climate tech companies to fund and bring into our portfolio. The individual will bring a growth mindset to the ways we reach and support entrepreneurs in the ecosystem. This position will report to the Senior Director of Portfolio Operations and manage at least one full-time employee and multiple seasonal interns.

Key Responsibilities Include:                         

Startup Sourcing & Investor Engagement  

  • Manage scouting efforts across all sectors to identify gaps and opportunities in the climate tech space (e.g. landscape analysis) 
  • Drive recruitment strategy to expand our reach to more traditionally excluded founders and leadership teams 
  • Lead the strategy to better cultivate and nurture relationships with aligned investors to explore alignment and exchange dealflow 

Due Diligence & Project Management 

  • Develop and manage a due diligence process that lands us with the most impactful companies in our portfolio and prioritizes equity in our decision-making  
  • Drive the co-development of Elemental’s investment thesis and criteria 
  • Identify, evaluate, and analyze potential investment opportunities, including market research and risk assessments for both equity and debt
  • Devise rigorous investment memos based on industry know-how  

Additional Responsibilities & Opportunities 

  • Lead a team of interns, fellows, and consultants throughout the year 
  • Work closely with the Communications team to support company outreach, investment announcements, and more 
  • Collaborate with the partnerships team to develop additional funding opportunities between our applicants and partners (eg: corporates, cities and municipalities, public financing institutions) 
  • Support onboarding process for selected companies 

About You

You could be a great addition to our team if you are a strategic project manager who is passionate about supporting entrepreneurs that work at the intersection of climate and social equity. We are looking for someone who is able to effectively collaborate across teams and develop lasting relationships with other investors, accelerators, and entrepreneurs working across water, industry, agriculture, energy, and mobility.

Desired skills:                               

  • Successful project manager that can own and drive a process from start to finish 
  • Experience with due diligence and investment decision-making 
  • Team-oriented mentality and proven experience working effectively in a nimble and flexible environment 
  • Attention to detail with outstanding organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines with consistency and phenomenal follow-through and documentation 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills 
  • Interest in climate, sustainability, and learning about various funding structures (equity, debt, etc.)

Standout skills:                          

  • Financial and business acumen, including analyzing financial documents and business plans 
  • Experience working with startups, venture capital, or accelerator programs 
  • Experience working with frontline communities and/or social equity organizations 
  • Interest and experience with one or more of the following sector(s): energy, mobility, water, agriculture or industry 
  • Network of investors or innovators across the US and internationally 

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time "at-will" position working at least 40 hours per week. You will be asked to travel for work periodically.  

The salary range for this role is $93,000 - $155,700, which is based on market data and the organization's compensation philosophy. Individual salary offers will depend on and may vary with location, relevant education, knowledge, skills, and experience. Also, please note that while we strive to benchmark against for-profit companies and try to be as competitive as possible, we are a non-profit. Our offer will be within the range as required by certain state laws and individual salary offers will vary within the range depending on location, relevant education, knowledge, skills, and experience. We also offer comprehensive employee benefits, including a professional development stipend and three weeks paid time off (more details here). 

Location

We will consider candidates located near one of our headquarters: Honolulu, San Francisco, New York and Washington, D.C., with a preference for San Francisco. Elemental has a hybrid working model and if you are within a reasonable distance to one of our offices in New York, DC, Bay Area, or Honolulu, we are asking employees to come into the office at least one day a week to build community with the team. Currently, most people come in 1-2 times a week, but we encourage those who are interested to come in more often if they’d like.
