📱 About Mous

We are Mous. People deserve tech and lifestyle products that are fit for purpose, perform as promised and allow them to be their best. So, we are building the go-to brand refreshingly focused on product so people can have just that. We have consistently built our in-house expertise and spent millions in research and development on our relentless pursuit to making the best products possible. Over the past ten years we have flipped the tech accessory market on its head, raising the standards and people's expectations. We've made cases that can protect phones dropped from cranes, engineered magnetic accessory ecosystems before MagSafe even launched, partnered with Google to make super thin cases, developed impact materials and waterproof constructions to make backpacks that confidently protect laptops and we're only just getting started!
We're creating products that empower people to be their best, whether they're on a wild adventure or commuting through the city. No matter what your everyday life looks like you can trust our products to remove frustrations, expand your experiences and help you to live without limits.

👋 About You

As a Junior Design Engineer at Mous, you'll have an exciting opportunity to kickstart your career in product design and development, working specifically within our cases & screen protectors team.

You’ll join a fast-paced environment where you'll grow your skills and contribute to the success of our projects. While there will be lots to learn, we’ll support you every step of the way. You'll be "hands-on" in this role, using your technical and creative skills to solve engineering problems and support our team.

Working closely with our existing team of Design Engineers and Industrial Designers, you’ll be eager to learn from others while building up your own knowledge and experience to help deliver the best outcomes for our customers.

🔑Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the design and development of multiple R&D projects, from research through to manufacture.

  • Supporting supplier management; from sourcing new suppliers to working with existing ones.

  • Working closely with our production team to ensure the successful launch of our new products

📅Here’s what you’ll get up to in your first three months with us:

  • Develop a strong sense of what makes a Mous product, a Mous product.

  • Start to contribute to the designs of multiple projects, supporting on prototyping, development in CAD (SolidWorks) and all associated tasks under the guidance of Project and Category Leads.

  • Learn and assist with the continuous improvement of our existing processes.

  • Get to grips with our prototyping capabilities in-house (UK & China) and outside the company (UK & CN-based Prototypes), often creating cost-effective prototypes in short timeframes.

✈️Sound good? This is our forecast for six months to a year:

  • Eagerly improve your ability to work with the Mous product development process to ensure the quality of design is executed consistently.

  • Support with operational tasks such as sample storage, materials supply, and health and safety protocols.

  • Pursue multiple avenues to achieve product specifications, working logically and consistently to make an inherently unpredictable activity, such as product design, as predictable as possible.

  • Use your strong communication skills to update Project and Category Leads on the progress of projects and tasks, and our Chinese manufacturers to ensure amendments and improvements to prototypes are completed on time and to spec.

  • Use your solid analytical and presentation skills to effectively present key data and insights to our CEO and other relevant departments.

  • Use your excellent time management abilities to prioritise daily tasks in accordance with overarching company goals.

🤓Skills requirements:

  • You'll have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or Manufacturing Engineering under your belt!

  • No prior experience is required for this role.

  • Broad understanding of the production process from concept to manufacture.

  • Willingness to learn about different testing methods and how to use data to improve designs.

  • Some knowledge of manufacturing processes like injection moulding, CNC, or thermoforming is a plus but not essential – we’ll teach you!

  • Proficient using Excel with the ability to produce complex reports.

  • Experience in CAD Modelling, ideally using SolidWorks.

  • We're not asking for the world (we promise!), but here are some nice-to-haves:
  • Previous experience working on tech accessory products.

  • Any experience of working with manufacturers or in a production environment.

  • Knowledge and experience working with Surface Modelling.
