We are offering the opportunity to work on developing truly ground-breaking technology as part of a team which nurtures and inspires innovation.

OQC are seeking someone with strong knowledge and experience of working with parametric amplifiers and the vision to help use that technology to enhance the performance and reliability of our next generation of quantum computers.  If you have a deep research background and technical understanding of this technology we would love to discuss this new opportunity with you.

Remuneration

  • £60-75k per annum
  • 25 Days holiday
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Pension
  • Private medical insurance
  • EAP cash plan
  • Group life and group income protection
  • Hybrid working
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • EV Car Scheme
  • Gym and wellness benefits

The Role

You will be part of a team developing superconducting parametric amplifiers and related devices. The aim of this role is to improve the efficiency of our readout chain through  the  simulation, design and measurement of these devices in our research & Development facility.

You will work collaboratively with our Material Science & Device Engineering team, not just to push the boundaries of the technology but also considering the full manufacturing process of these devices, from design to packaging for end use.

As part of our drive to put our Quantum Devices in the hands of humanity, you may also have the opportunity to represent OQC at conferences and other scientific settings.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and simulate parametric amplifiers for high-fidelity readout at scale.
  • Microwave measurements  and characterisation of superconducting quantum circuits in continuous-wave and pulsed operation.
  • Operation of support-infrastructure including dilution refrigerators and control electronics.
  • Work both with a team of varied technical backgrounds and independently driving output towards key milestones.
  • Analyse, collate and present data, drawing conclusions and making data-driven recommendations on device development.

Skills & experience

Required skills:

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related fields or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Python programming capabilities.
  • Understanding of working principles of parametric amplifiers.
  • Familiarity with design and simulation of microwave devices using packages such as Ansys, Keysight ADS, SPICE or other microwave simulation tools.

Desirable skills:

  • Familiarity with multipole filter synthesis and layout for manufacture.
  • Measurement expertise of microwave devices in milliKelvin cryogenic environments.
  • Understanding of Josephson physics.
  • Experience with dispersive readout techniques applied to qubits.

Research has shown that women are less likely than men to apply for this role if they do not have solid experience in 100% of these areas. Please know that this list is indicative and that we would still love to hear from you even if you feel you only are a 75% match. Skills can be learnt, diversity cannot.
