About the role

Appfire is seeking a full-time Director of Data Science

In this role you will be responsible for launching Appfire’s first-ever Data Science function. You will design our company-wide Data Science strategy, organization and pathway to value, implementing the technologies, models, processes and foundations that showcases what our data means for our customer, product, partner and company success.

Data Science at Appfire will incorporate predictive forecasting, new product features and implementing new ways of working for our business. You will be responsible for laying the foundations for all three - working with leadership and stakeholders across Appfire to build a strategic roadmap of value along with the pathways to achieve it. 

Reporting to the Head of Data & Insights, you will leverage our Snowflake ecosystem to build enterprise-grade data science infrastructure, models and processes that scales with Appfire’s incremental needs and the ROI that our Data Science achieves.

You can choose to work remotely from your home office in the U.S. This position requires quarterly travel, some of which will be international.  

Your everyday tasks will include:

  • Assess the landscape of Appfire’s Data Science needs and capabilities, building outcomes that showcase the value of today while preparing us for the use cases of tomorrow.
  • Interface with leaders and stakeholders at all levels of Appfire, building confidence in our data and model outputs that sells a vision of what Data Science will become at Appfire through both high level and outcome-focused discussions.
  • Be Appfire’s subject matter expert and most Senior Data Scientist, bringing knowledge across statistical methods, infrastructure, model development and model productionalization.
  • Architect, build, and launch efficient & reliable Data Science models, operationalizing them in partnership with our Data Engineering organization.

Skills and experience you'll need to succeed:

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience or a combination of industry and PhD.
  • Background building new Data Science organizations and programs from the ground up.
  • Expertise in SQL and Python
  • Experience working with Lifetime Value analysis/optimization
  • Excited to dive into a fast growing company where your work impacts the business and financial decisions of the company everyday
  • Proven ability to succeed in both collaborative and independent work environments at a remote-work company
  • Comfortable working in a fast-growing startup environment within a critical growth area for the company
  • Strong technical and mathematics background
  • Experience in generative AI
  • Additional Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with DBT
    • Experience building/deploying enterprise knowledge graphs/ontologies
