Symmetrio is actively recruiting for an Applications System Engineer for our customer, a large government organization in Philadelphia, PA. This role combines Application Development, Application Support, and Platform Engineering. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, managing, and modernizing application platforms and environments, with a focus on performance optimization, security implementation, and innovative solution design.
This is an on site role in Philadelphia
Responsibilities
- Evaluate applications for "best-practice" implementations, including functionality and integration
- Develop software/application solutions to meet business and operations needs
- Collect and translate application and/or reporting requirements for solutions design
- Manage and troubleshoot performance issues and resolve server/OS-related application issues
- Document solutions using application development cycle methodologies, diagrams, and application models
- Perform application/software code reviews for improvements, enhancements, and optimization
- Review and implement security controls in applications and corresponding infrastructure for IT security compliance
- Design, develop, and manage front-end and back-end application components, including user interfaces and database integrations
- Analyze application datasets to formulate reports and reporting templates
- Provide technical subject matter expertise on application projects
- Maintain server components in application stacks
- Collaborate with the Platform Engineering team to optimize Server/VM, Web, and Database components in application stacks
Requirements
- Strong development skills in .Net, C++, Python, Java, XML, JSON, and GO
- Proficiency in front-end design protocols including PHP, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and GO
- Extensive web development experience with platforms such as Microsoft IIS, Visual Studio, Apache, NGINX, Node.JS, and Django
- Strong comprehension of SQL platforms including MS SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL
- Experience in designing, creating, and supporting reports using SQL Server Reporting Services
- Proficiency in designing and supporting ETL and ELT processing using SQL Server Integration Services
- Ability to manage and configure desktop and server operating systems: Windows 10 and 11 Windows Server 2016 and above
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (or similar distributions)
- Experience in administering system changes/modifications within operating systems
- Understanding and implementation of security at the Network, Application, Server, and Database level
- Strong scripting skills for process automation or service optimization (VB Script, PowerShell, BASH, Python, or similar)
- Excellent soft and organizational skills, including teamwork, priority management, time management, task tracking, relationship building, and communication of complex ideas to non-technical people
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 suite of applications
Highly Desired Skills:
- Working knowledge of server infrastructure virtualization
- Experience with app deployments in AWS, Azure, or similar cloud environments
- Familiarity with Mainframe systems and COBOL, CICS, JCL, VSAM languages
- Strong comprehension of MySQL and PostgreSQL databases
