The Opportunity

Live code reviews present an opportunity for each student to walk through a project one-on-one with an expert software engineer different from their assigned mentor. This will help prepare students to talk about their code in a technical interview and to receive feedback on the job.

Each code review consists of 30 minutes reviewing the student’s code in advance, followed by 30 minutes on a live video call with the student. There are currently two live code reviews scheduled throughout the course.

Responsibilities

• Provide 5-10 hours per week in availability for students to book code reviews
• Spend time preparing for the code review by reviewing the student’s code in advance
• Attend the code review and check for both code quality and higher level architectural decisions
• Be familiar with the code assignments and solutions
• Ask student questions about their code
• Offer feedback on students’ code
• Answer student questions about the assignment
• Provide written feedback summarizing your code review
• Have a high degree of familiarity with the course curriculum
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills including being able to break down complex concepts
