The Norfolk Southern Information Technology Department is searching for a qualified candidate to join a dynamic project team working to validate the functionality of NS transportation systems. This position provides the opportunity for the individual to be involved with the integration of a locomotive based computer system as well as the back office systems into a vendor provided Asset Management Package. Candidate will interface primarily with team lead as well as the business area to design and develop integrations to support the NS asset management system. Interactions with external vendors may also be required. Location: Midtown Atlanta, just across from Colony Square next to the Arts Center with easy access to MARTA Train & Bus Service, and interstate access
Education: 4-yr College Degree preferably in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
Responsibilities:The incumbent will be responsible for the following:- Develop software using J2EE design patterns with emphasis on reusability
- Understand and analyze details provided in the use case, or task narratives
- Estimate effort for technical analysis, design and development
- Adhere to coding standards and design specifications
- Technical testing and trouble shooting in a test lab environment.
- Analyze and resolve technical issues independently
- Brief travel may be involved
Skills:Required: - At least 3 years of solid professional work experience in development and support of Java/J2EE applications
- Solid grasp of web and backend application development
- Relational Database Experience (preferred: DB2, Oracle, MS SQL Server)
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Experience in UNIX or Linux
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong teamwork and customer support focus
- Ability to handle numerous conflicting priorities in a professional manger
- Aggressive problem diagnosis and creative problem solving skills on highly complex problems; technical agility
Preferred:- Enterprise Service Bus experience
- Experience in the following: XML, Web Services, IBM WebSphere MQ
- Eclipse/IntelliJ
- Transportation/Logistic Industry experience
