Transylvania University (www.transy.edu), a top-tier, independent, residential liberal arts college of 1,000 students in Lexington, Kentucky, invites applications for the position of Campus Counselor.
The Campus Counselor provides mental health counseling to current Transylvania University students. This includes triage, individual counseling, crisis counseling, administering assessments and case management for those students seeking mental health services. Duties also include providing resources, referrals and advocacy for students as needed or requested. The Campus Counselor will respond to crises as needed and consult with other professionals, staff and faculty regarding the mental health needs of individual students when appropriate.
The Campus Counselor is responsible for maintaining documentation and records on an electronic records management system and ensuring confidentiality in all aspects of their job. The candidate should be comfortable with learning new electronic systems and maintaining data. The Campus Counselor is expected to maintain a professional licensure and the required continuing education, as well as stay abreast of college mental health, current mental health research, and trends.
The majority of the Campus Counselor’s schedule will be focused on providing direct clinical services to a diverse student population with emotional, relationship, interpersonal, health, and/or academic issues through assessment, intake, individual therapy, psycho-education, as well as documentation of each encounter. The Campus Counselor will work closely with the Coordinator of Counseling Services and other team members to meet the demand for services. In addition, the Campus Counselor may participate in outreach programming and training along with the Director of Student Wellbeing for different groups on campus, including residence hall advisors, faculty members, first year students, etc. As needed, the campus counselor may serve as a resource to faculty and staff regarding mental health problems and may participate on campus committees that function to improve areas of psychological and interpersonal health.
This position requires a Master’s degree in psychology, mental health counseling, social work or a related field; relevant experience and a professional license. This includes LPCC, LPCA, LCSW, and LMFT’s. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with college-aged students or issues unique to emerging adulthood.
