The Gender and Inclusion Specialist (G&I Specialist) is expected to contribute to F4L efforts to improve outcomes for women, youth, and children in aquaculture in Myanmar. The G&I Specialist ensures that interventions by the F4L Myanmar F4L Activity result in benefits for women as presented in the agreement with USAID and that the broader spectrum of gender issues is considered in programming. Also, to ensure alignment with the agreed USAID indicators and results. The major role of the G&I Specialist is to ensure that gender integration at all levels in the overall research and development activities of the F4L and any other assigned projects under the Small-Scale Aquaculture program. The G&I Specialist will be responsible to work focusing on innovative approaches to fishers’ women community savings groups for ensuring women’s access to finance/resources and technologies in Myanmar.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build on the WorldFish and CGIAR Gender Strategies to design and implement gender-sensitive and gender-specific activities that can be implemented by F4L and its sub-grantees.
  • Review the WorldFish Global Gender Strategy and develop a suitable gender strategy for F4L. Localization of WF’s Global Gender Strategy and recommend the inclusive approach to adapt it, and how to contribute to 2030 WF’s innovation strategy.
  • Work with sub-grantees partners to create awareness of gender issues within their operations and markets.
  • Assist in making annual work plan, developing design & implementation plan for gender research/strategies, and community engagement for enhancing the wellbeing of fishing and fish farming communities in gender-equitable ways.
  • Assist DCoP, MEL Team, and program Team by providing necessary feedback / Suggestions/reporting as per need, mentoring, and advice to sub-grantees, partners, and stakeholders in relation to gender integration.
  • Make coordination and provide necessary capacity-building support to field teams to strengthen Gender and Inclusion insights, ensure women and youth engagement in different interventions.
  • Collaborate with F4L’s MEL Team to monitor and evaluate Activity progress and performance on gender and inclusion.
  • Design and conduct gender awareness, special day celebrations, and outreach programs both at institutional and community levels.
  • Working closely with the gender team of WorldFish HQ to advance understanding of the impact and roles of fisheries management in achieving WorldFish 2030 outcomes and of sustainably and equitably meeting food, nutrition, and poverty reduction goals.

 

Requirements

This job might be for you if you have the below skills and qualifications:  

  • Master or Bachelor’s Degree in Development, Gender, Economics, Agriculture, or related discipline.
  • Certifications or training in the field of Gender, Inclusion, and Youth programming will be an added advantage.
  • At least five years' experience working on gender in development or business, preferably in the agriculture sector which includes fisheries in Myanmar.
  • Proven project management skills including project development and report writing.
  • Demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in gender issues related to food security and food security.
  • Ability and willingness to work with beneficiaries in their locations.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills and expertise with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills, with the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong team building and interpersonal communication skills to build networks among stakeholders.
  • Previous experience of working in a USAID or other major donor projects.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook to support effective communication.
  • Willingness to live in and travel extensively throughout the target areas in Myanmar and Southeast Asia.
  • Fluent in English and Burmese.
  • A record of positive outcomes in applying the Gender, Inclusion, and Youth approach will be an added advantage.
  • Eagerness to work closely with partner organizations and associated stakeholders.
  • Committed and motivated.

Benefits

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with a salary between USD19,000 to USD20,000 per annum. We offer a competitive remuneration package including (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, 15% employer provident fund contribution, paid leave and others.

Our Offer

The position will be based in Yangon, Myanmar. Interviews are expected to begin in the first week of September 2024. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified and expected to attend the virtual interview session. The successful candidates should be available to commence as soon as possible for an twelve (12) months fixed-term contract, with the possibility of contract renewal depending on performance and funding situation.
