Altarum Institute (Altarum) Population Health Division is seeking a remote Senior Evaluation Analyst for a fast-paced, demanding, but rewarding, consulting environment. We work to improve the health of disenfranchised populations by combining our expertise in public health and health care delivery to address health disparities, improve programs, and build better systems of care through an equity-focused lens. You will have the opportunity to utilize your expertise in statistics, equitable evaluation principles, and data visualization to support cross-functional teams to achieve project goals. This role requires you to provide thought leadership in designing and executing analysis plans, conduct analysis and reporting across an array of projects, and provide expert consultation to the team and our clients. Additionally, this role may provide supervision and mentoring to earlier career analysts, participate in business development efforts, networking, and developing strong partner relationships.
This Senior Evaluation Analyst position will specifically support projects in the Food and Nutrition focus area, as well as also allow for cross-area work in other community health areas (including, maternal and child health, behavioral health, and sexual and reproductive health). For over 30 years, Altarum has worked directly with federal and state agencies, universities, and other organizations on food, nutrition, and chronic disease prevention initiatives to help them maximize their impact. Our team includes registered dietitians with decades of research and evaluation experience and subject matter expertise in nutrition security, obesity, physical activity, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed), and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
Our ideal candidate has experience leading evaluation and research study design, including sampling procedures and power calculations, developing data collection tools and systems to capture meaningful community health program data; leading data analysis activities; and developing reports and other communications that portray findings in compelling ways for a broad range of audiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of evaluation and research study design, and potentially manage quantitative projects.
- Apply advanced statistical knowledge to the design of surveys, collection, processing, and analysis of data, and interpretation of results.
- Apply principles of health equity in the design of data collection instruments, sampling approaches, and data analysis.
- Set up data reporting system parameters for participant and outcome data.
- Engage in learning conversations with program leadership and stakeholders on evaluation findings and recommendations.
- Perform data validation studies and data analyses, including regression modeling, developing and running data queries and syntax in SPSS, SAS, and Excel, creating/updating documentation of analysis steps/audit trails.
- Develop sampling approaches, including weighting data, conducting sample size estimates and power calculations.
- Develop tools and templates, as needed, to conduct evaluation activities.
- Use subject matter knowledge and experiences to formulate plans and manage project timelines and processes for completion.
- Summarize monthly and annual progress and results for projects, using clear and concise written narrative, data charts, and effective visualizations.
- Provide mentorship to and oversee the work of earlier career analysts.
- Consult with clients and project directors to define need or problem and analytic solutions.
- Oversee research, administer studies, evaluate results to advise on or recommend solutions, utilizing knowledge of theory, principles, or technology of specific discipline or fields of specialization.
- Lead efforts to disseminate research findings, including developing public-facing reports and peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and conference abstracts.
- Support business development efforts, including contributing to proposal efforts and networking.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Data Science, or related field with relevant specialized training in statistics.
- At least eight (8) years of directly related experience in conducting complex analyses and program evaluation.
- Strong analytical/critical thinking skills and knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation methods and design.
- Content area knowledge and experience related to food and nutrition programs strongly preferred.
- Experience evaluating policy, systems and environmental change strategies, community-based interventions, or social marketing campaigns is a plus.
- Proficiency in all basic office software applications (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Proficiency in statistical programs (including SAS and SPSS).
- Experience designing and producing effective data visualizations including Tableau dashboards.
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in development and management of large, complex datasets, including quality assurance.
- Ability to gather and analyze available data/information and draw logical conclusions.
- Proficient written communication skills with ability to develop technical reports that effectively communicate findings.
Logistical Requirements
- At this time, we will only accept candidates who are presently eligible to work in the United States and will not require sponsorship.
- Our organization requires that all work, for the duration of your employment, must be completed in the continental U.S. unless required by contract.
- This position will be remote.
- Position may require occasional travel to Altarum offices, client sites, meetings, and conferences.
