JOB SUMMARY:  Assist with general property maintenance, repair, general upkeep, and preparedness of all Museum facilities and related equipment in support of both Museum events and for the Facilities department unrelated to events.  Support mission and vision of Museum throughout performance of duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Serve as point of contact with the Venue services team in the days leading up to an event to ensure and perform facilities preparedness duties.
  • Liaison between the Events and Facilities teams to ensure business continuity and to administer duties related to museum and event A/V needs.
  • At the direction and guidance of the Director, Facilities, liaison and perform facilities maintenance and related duties for The Kitchen.
  • Perform routine office and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Conduct sweeping exterior grounds to remove debris, cleaning windows, cleaning spaces as not otherwise cleaned by third-party porter and grounds service; trash pick-up; emptying of exterior trash cans; and clean-up of any excrement from humans/animals.
  • Touch up painting of all areas at all museum properties as deemed necessary for events.
  • Conduct minor carpentry and construction as needed.
  • Transport goods and materials between museum locations.
  • Drive museum truck and load and unload museum equipment.
  • Load and unload goods and materials at various museum locations.
  • Maintain cleanliness of maintenance shop.
  • Perform minor plumbing as needed (minor drain clearing, faucet/faucet stem replacements, flow adjustments, etc.).
  • Work closely with the security, events, facilities, registrars, and art handling departments to safeguard and protect the Museum’s art collection, exhibitions, and facility during events.
  • Work multiple night, weekend, and holiday shifts with some office hours to coordinate scheduling and planning with Facilities team.
  • Support Facilities team as assigned during non-event work hours and days.
  • Follow policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:  

Practical experience and working knowledge of painting, clean-up, light construction, plumbing; ability to work in a team environment; good oral and written communication skills; ability to work  effectively with staff, contractors, and service technicians; ability to troubleshoot and make recommendations; knowledge of heavy equipment operation preferred (i.e. scissor lifts, boom lifts, fork lifts); basic computer knowledge; ability to work and commute to any of the Museum facilities with short notice; reliable transportation to travel as needed throughout the day to any Museum location or external vendors; shifts may include evenings, weekends and holidays as needed and may be called in on short notice; high school diploma and two years’ recent relevant experience or any combination of equivalent education and experience.  Experience in building maintenance, public facilities, or Museums preferred.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Manual dexterity required to operate tools and equipment associated with electrical, plumbing, woodworking, and general minor construction.
  • Working with paint, paint fumes, and chemical fumes associated with common industrial paint and cleaning supplies.
  • Ability to carry out physical maneuvers and mobility associated with maintenance, repair, replacement and general upkeep of equipment and properties in the four buildings, which may include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling up to 50-100 lbs, lifting of arms above head for extended periods, which also includes climbing, kneeling, crawling, balancing, stooping, crouching, and reaching.
  • Ladder work including heights of 15-20+ feet and occasional rooftop work.
  • Ability to lift arms overhead for sustained period of time.
  • Some extreme temperatures when working outside in rain or cold/hot with outdoor or roof-top work.
  • Alternate shifts (shift changes) and/or locations.
  • Driving MCASD transport vehicles and transportation of materials, supplies, etc.
  • Local driving to various Museum locations and external vendors.
  • Working in confined spaces will be required on occasion.
  • Special Environment Factors:  Office located in basement setting, working off site, working in storage spaces, working at heights, and working in confined locations.

BACKGROUND CHECKS AND LICENSING: Professional references, criminal background, and DMV check. Ability to learn and be certified in forklift and scissor lift. Ability to drive and obtain and maintain a driver’s license and evidence of insurability.
