RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts routine and non-routine analytical studies using optical microscopy, SEM, EDS/EDX, XPS/ESCA, FTIR, DSC, profilometry, and contact angle measurement.
Assists in the maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Assists in the development of new testing techniques and methods.
Performs sample preparation for surface analysis and microscopy.
Performs qualitative and quantitative analyses.
Maintains a safe laboratory environment.
Records raw data according to GLP documentation requirements.
Interprets results and prepares technical reports on completed studies.
Performs other technical writing functions as requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: B.S. degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, biomedical engineering, or related scientific discipline, with at least 3-5 years laboratory experience performing instrumental analysis.
Hands on experience using optical microscopy, SEM, and FTIR.
Knowledge of EDS/EDX, XPS/ESCA, DSC, profilometry, and contact angle methods.
Experience working in a GLP or GMP regulated environment.
Well organized and detail oriented.
Proficient with MS Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Able to multitask and operate effectively within a diverse work environment.
Team oriented and have strong interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: M.S. or higher in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, biomedical engineering, or related scientific discipline.
In depth understanding and hands on experience with optical microscopy, SEM, EDS/EDX, XPS/ESCA, FTIR, DSC, profilometry, and contact angle measurement.
Understanding of HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, and ICP-MS to characterize materials, identify impurities, assay drug product formulations or complete investigations.
Understanding of light obscuration particle counting, micro flow imaging particle characterization, and other particle analysis methods.
Experience performing method development and validation in a GLP or GMP environment.
Excellent oral presentation skill with the ability to communicate complicated scientific concepts to technical and non-technical staff.
