General Summary

Under the direction of the Facility Installation/Service Manager, the HVAC&R Tehnician will provide daily service and repair of HVAC and refrigeration equipment for all assigned Thorntons stores and/or facilities.  In addition, the HVAC&R Technician will service and repair restaurant equipment such as frozen carbonated and non-carbonated dispensers, fountain beverage equipment, ice makers, juice dispensers, FCB machines, Hot Dog Roller grills, food warmers, and condiment units.

Essential Job Functions

  • Trouble shoot / diagnose service problems and make repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Test lines, components, and connections for leaks.
  • Observe and test systems operation, using guages and instruments.
  • Braze or solder parts to repair joints and leaks.
  • Adjust or replace worn or defective parts.
  • Perform mechanical overhauls and refrigerant reclaiming.
  • Install expansion and control valves using acetylene and wrenches.
  • Check the quality of all dispensed products (i.e., checking syrup levels, etc.)
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment.
  • Perform installation of various new equipment.
  • Alternate on-call duty with other team members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical school degree or certification a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the HVAC&R Industry.
  • Minimum 5 years working as a service technician.
  • Experience with fountain/FCB machines, ice makers, walk-in coolers, freezers, and HVAC split systems.
  • Great customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple project simultaneously.

Certifications

  • EPA Certification Type 1 and Type 2 required.
  • Universal EPA Certification preferred.
  • Journeyman's license required.
  • Must have DOT Physical card or must obtain one upon hire.

Must have a valid drivers license.  Daily travel to and from stores; occasional travel out of town.
