We currently have a need for an experienced Controller with Non-Profit experienced for a 3-6 month project. Projected to be about 30 hours a week. This person MUST be willin and able to work on-site 3 days a week in our clients office located in Bronx, New York.
What You’ll Do:

- The Controller is responsible for managing the financial strategy and providing tactical leadership in the areas of accounting, finance, budgeting, capital planning and management, financial compliance, and information technology
- This is a hands-on position working along with two staff members in the department
- Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures
- Ensure that all federal, state, and local requirements of the organization are met
- Coordinate audits and proper filing of tax returns
- Develop and maintain financial accounting systems and internal controls for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash to safeguard financial assets
- Review monthly financial results and provide monthly variance reports
- Manage the cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts
- Manage the acquisition of capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed of
- Serve as staff lead in working with the Finance, Investment, Audit, and various committees
- Establish guidelines for budget and forecast preparation and prepare the annual budget, including capital improvement budgets in consultation with the CEO and leadership
- Monitor risk management policies and procedures to ensure that program and organizational risks are minimized
- Negotiate with financial institutions on lines of credit and other financial services as needed
- Oversees and administers employee onboarding, payroll, and benefits programs in cooperation with external HR firm and insurance providers
- Oversee information technology for office and staff in cooperation with external IT service provider
- Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field strongly preferred
- 5-8 years of progressive experience in a mix of finance and accounting roles required
- Non-profit industry experience required
- Ability to work onsite 3 days a week in Bronx, NY is required
- Advanced Excel and modeling skills (pivots, lookups, complex formulas, and macro capability)
- Strong accounting and finance knowledge and experience (month/year-end close, general ledger, financial systems, financial reporting, consolidations, reconciliations, cash flow modeling, etc.)
- MBA or dual degree in finance, CPA, CMA, or other certifications preferred
- Ability to learn new software programs quickly
