Role Overview

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a rapidly growing IoT startup and play a highly important role in its global expansion. Our group has its headquarters in Japan, though you will mainly be involved in the global side of the business outside Japan, working closely with different small teams across the world.

As a global operation, we must constantly face myriad new regulations from diverse jurisdictions. Therefore, researching laws and regulations of each country with outside legal counsel and maintaining internal operations compliance with such regulations in tandem with relevant team members will be primary requirements for your role. You might be involved in a range of contract management activities, including drafting and negotiating contracts, provided that your skills, experiences, and interests align. For this role, you will work closely with a tight-knit legal team, where you will have full exposure to a range of commercial legal and compliance tasks. We encourage remote work, so you can work from anywhere in Japan.

Requirements

Key requirement

• Experience in regulatory compliance (3+ years)
• Experience in GDPR and similar privacy-related regulations
• Excellent skills in coordinating with outside counsels in various countries
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Keen attention to detail and a very high standard for accuracy
• Strong commercial outlook and flexible, pragmatic approach to legal practice
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
• Ability to work in a diverse, multicultural environment

Preferred Experience and Skills

• Legal Qualification - Qualified lawyer with 3+ years either in-house or in private practice
• Strong understanding of contract principles + practical experience drafting cross-border agreements
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in Japanese
• Work experience in the telecommunications industry
• Experience in export control laws such as EAR
• Aware of IT and technology trends
• Experience working in a startup-like environment

Benefits

Flexible working hours : 8 hours per day between 5am to 10pm (with 1 hour break)
