What You'll Do

Angeline’s is a Day Center for homeless women serving 75 women daily based on a harm reduction, housing first model. The goal of the Day Center is to build trusting relationships to move women out of homelessness. The Case Manager provides comprehensive supportive services that help participants identify strengths and barriers, and develop action plans that encourages self-sufficiency, self-determination, and that lead to stabilization in permanent housing.

This position has a social justice component that requires critical thinking through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Knowing the core principals of antiracism and grounding those principles in everyday work are required job skills and core values. Responsibilities

  • Complete screening and intake and assess participants needs
  • Assist participants in developing individualized plans to secure and maintain permanent housing using a strengths-based model
  • Negotiate goals and objectives that encourage self-sufficiency and self-determination and that lead to stabilization in permanent housing 
  • Meet regularly weekly with participants to build trust, provide supportive services and link to other community agencies to resolve barriers to housing and other basic needs
  • Provide housing search assistance
  • Assist in negotiating the social service system, advocate with mainstream service providers when needed, accompany participants to appointments as necessary
  • Encourage a supportive community environment by coordinating group activities such as community meetings, field trips, and special events 
  • Provide housing stabilization assistance (i.e. money management, anger management, and socialization skills)
  • Assist with housing placement including accessing needed move-in services (i.e. deposit assistance, furnishings, etc)
  • Provide support and retention services for at least 6 months after exit from program  
  • Work with Program Manager to devise and implement action plan for participants not complying with program guidelines and/or policies.
  • Work effectively with other Angeline’s staff
  • Maintain positive relationships and coordinate linkages with other service providers
  • Maintain client records, database requirements, narratives and statistical reports
  • Develop and maintain resource files
  • Show demonstrated ability to interact with people of different cultures and continue search for understanding of racial, gender and class equity
  • Adhere to all Volunteer Services protocol relative to volunteer usage, recognition and monitoring.  Work alongside volunteers, where applicable
  • Assure that volunteers are treated with respect and dignity regardless of race, ethnic background, gender or socioeconomic background

Requirements

  • At least three years of direct social service experience, including two years working with homeless women OR Bachelor's degree in a related field with at least at least one year working with homeless women       
  • And
  • Experience providing case management services
  • Knowledge and experience related to crisis intervention, domestic violence, homelessness, mental health, case management, and substance abuse
  • Knowledge of available resources in Seattle-King County for homeless women
  • Commitment to diversity, including sensitivity to the needs of clients, staff, and volunteers from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and as part of a team and to make sound judgments without on-site supervision
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 40 pounds
  • Good oral and written communication skills including computer skills
  • Good organizational and record keeping skills

Hours, Rate, and Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $26.50
  • Hours: 40
  • Excellent benefits package including medical insurance, retirement plan, plus generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave plans
  • At the time of hire, employees may enroll voluntarily in the Fidelity 403b Plan
  • After two years of employment, employees are eligible to participate in the YWCA Retirement Fund

Physical Requirements

  • Continuously uses speech and hearing abilities in exchanging information with clients, agency staff, employers, representatives of community organizations and other individuals in the community
  • Frequently sits for extended periods while performing desktop activities
  • Continually stands and walks in performing duties in Center
  • Repetitively uses hands and wrists, fingering, handling, grasping, and reaching in using telephones, computers, kitchen equipment, donations and supplies
  • Occasionally pushes and pulls up to ten pounds
  • Frequently lifts and carries supplies weighing up to 50 pounds
  • *Continuously over 80% of the time, Frequently 20-80% of the time, and Occasionally under 20% of the time.
