 About the role

We are currently seeking a full time Shipwright to join our Shore Based Maintenance Team. Reporting to the Engineering manager, the Shore Based Engineer Shipwright assists in the maintenance of vessels, pontoon, vehicles and tenders. The Shipwright could work on but not limited to: Installs of various kinds such as, masts, frames, decking, fittings, machines, shafts and safety equipment. The shipwright may build and install structures such as cabins, seats, fridges, machine mountings, propeller support and rudders.

This role will also require you to determine repair requirements and procedures for a range of vessel fitted items and may make moulds and fabricate and repair vessels using materials such as aluminium, wood, glass, reinforced plastics, carbon fibre, Kevlar, fibreglass and concrete.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Proactive in the planning of vessel internal looks
  • Accurately maintain logs and work orders through to job completion and sign off
  • Adherence with SOPS, Marine Memos, operation procedures and WHS requirements
  • Ensure all qualifications are kept up to date and provided to HR
  • Remain adaptable and acceptable to change while working autonomously
  • In addition to the scheduled maintenance program, responsible for fault finding and additional repairs
  • Record all maintenance defects and defect ramifications
  • Ensure sufficient stock of all items necessary to make your job run smoothly
  • Ensure your manager is advised when maintenance shed stock is low to assist in it being fully stocked
  • Completion of ad hoc maintenance tasks and repairs where there are appearance issues arising, under the guidance of the Maintenance Manager.

About you

The successful candidate will have Proven ability in boat building, shipwright or a marine finisher. You will have experience with high-speed vessel and the requirements for presentation. You will also have high level of marine knowledge as well as installations and experience in conduction risk assessments and introducing practical safety measures. Be a team player and have a positive and adaptable “can do” attitude.

 

To be successful in this role you will be someone who:

  • Maintains a high levels of marine safety and compliance – Ensure all training and certificates are up to date
  • Maintains a thorough and complete onboard job completion log after completion on any job
  • Takes proactive remedial action to maintain looks and appearances of the vessels internal and external spaces
  • Is clean and tidy in all aspects
  • Interactive use of HELM (Asset Management System) and timely upkeep of maintenance requests
  • Have an eye for detail and take pride in their work
  • Be proactive in finding and remedying any onboard issues with vessels
  • Safety first and be risk adverse
  • A cross-culture awareness and sensitivity to the needs of others
  • A strong work ethic where any job that needs doing will get done well

Requirements

  • Trade qualifications as a Shipwright, or can prove extensive time in vessel repairs and shipwright type works
  • Open manual Drivers Licence
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid & Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • Working at heights
  • Forklift Licence (desirable)
  • Working in confined spaces (desirable)
