I am supporting my client, a global consultancy, who are seeking an experienced Principal Health Economist to lead and expand their health economics team. The ideal candidate will have a robust consulting background, in-depth understanding of Health Technology Assessment (HTA), technical hands-on experience, and commercial awareness. This role offers the opportunity to grow into a line management position as the team expands.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
- Develop and implement strategic plans for the health economics division
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities and client engagements
Client and Stakeholder Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing expert advice and ensuring client satisfaction
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes
- Present findings and recommendations to clients, regulatory bodies, and at conferences
Commercial Awareness:
- Understand and interpret market trends, competitor activities, and payer requirements
- Provide strategic insights to clients on the commercial implications of health economics and HTA outcomes
- Develop pricing and reimbursement strategies that align with commercial goals
- Ensure health economic analyses support broader business development and market access strategies
Team Development and Growth:
- Plan and manage resources effectively to accommodate growing business demands.
- Support career development and professional growth of team members
Operational Excellence:
- Manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the health economics team
Technical Expertise
- Oversee the development of economic models (e.g., cost-effectiveness, budget impact)
- Ensure rigorous application of health economic methodologies and best practices.
- Lead the preparation of HTA submissions and responses to payer queries.
- Conduct and supervise systematic literature reviews, meta-analyses, and other evidence synthesis activities.

Qualifications:
- Education:
- Advanced degree in Health Economics, Economics, Public Health, Pharmacy, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in health economics, preferably within a consulting environment
- Proven track record in developing and submitting HTA dossiers
- Extensive experience in economic modeling and evidence synthesis
- Strong understanding of global HTA requirements and payer landscapes
- Skills:
- Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills
- Proficiency in statistical software and health economic modeling tools (e.g., Excel, TreeAge, R, Stata)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Commercially aware with the ability to translate health economic outcomes into business insights
