Join the BRAC Ultra Poor Graduation Initiative (UPGI) and be a part of a global movement to eradicate extreme poverty. We are on the hunt for a dynamic national professional to join our Nairobi office, Kenya. The role is pivotal in supporting operations and administrative functions critical to our scale-up strategy. You will work alongside an international team, making an impact across continents.

The Finance Analyst (Accounts Assistant) will be responsible for reviewing and processing staff reimbursement claims in line with company policies. He/she  will also manage vendor invoices, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of payments processing. Additionally, He/she will support the preparation of financial reports and provision of key data to support informed decision-making by management.

The suitable candidate will ensure compliance with donor requirements, manage financial control and associated risks and oversee reporting.The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex financial operations in the development or nonprofit sector. The position will also be involved in business process improvement and special projects from time to time.

The Finance Analyst (Accounts Assistant) will report directly to the Finance Manager and dotted line to the Senior Finance Manager. Additionally, the role involves developing close working relationships while seeking technical inputs and guidance from UPGI’s Operations team members across the different regions. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are crucial, as the position requires liaising with various stakeholders and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and industry guidelines.

This role demands a detail-oriented individual with exceptional multitasking abilities and excellent communication skills to ensure a smooth execution and delivery of services with a customer-centric approach.

The Ultra-Poor Graduation Initiative is a global unit within BRAC International that was founded in 2016 to build off the success of BRAC’s Ultra-Poor Graduation program in Bangladesh. Graduation is an evidence-based, scalable intervention proven to break the poverty trap for the long term. So far, BRAC’s flagship Graduation program has impacted over 2 million Bangladeshi households—totaling over 9 million people. To help eradicate extreme poverty, BRAC UPGI is working to scale globally by integrating Graduation into existing government programs and help 21 million more people lift themselves from extreme poverty by 2026. At present UPGI has interventions with governments in South Africa, Rwanda, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and India.

 

Primary Responsibilities 

     Processing of  staff reimbursement claims according to company policies.

     Management of the accounts payable process receiving and processing vendor invoices, ensuring timeliness  and accuracy of payments

     Ensuring that monthly Reconciliation  of the accounts payable and receivable accounts.

     Supporting the preparations of financial reports by providing data

     Preparation of aging schedules for the balance sheet accounts,

     Maintaining accurate support documentation for all payments, including those made to non-registered countries, adhering to relevant regulations.

     Assisting with the month-end closing process and other ad-hoc finance processes.

     Promoting  a strong internal control environment and best practices for the accounts payable  process.

     Identifying and driving process improvements, including the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports, tools and dashboards,

Other (Safeguarding Responsibilities):

        Ensuring the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation to achieve the program’s goals of safeguarding implementation. 

        Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.  

        Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.

 

Qualifications

        Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting ,Bcom , Management, or a related field.

        A part qualification either CPA Part 2 or ACCA Level 2 is a prerequisite,

        Minimum of two [2] years of progressive experience in finance or similar roles.

        Having experience of working in an international NGO will be an added advantage.

        Experience in donor funded projects & treasury management with understanding about rules and regulation of major donors.

        In-depth understanding of procurement processes, contract management, and travel logistics.

        Proficiency in MS Office, project management tools, and procurement systems.

        Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

      Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.

        Diplomatic, with strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of political sensitivity  

        Strong English skills and local language fluency required 

        Exceptional communication and representational skills

        Ability and willingness to travel required.
