Position Overview:
ASD High School English teachers are responsible for planning and implementing the educational teaching plan according to the school’s requirements. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching reading and writing (both modern and classic literature) and using innovative ways to assess student learning and mastery. In addition, they should be able to effectively collaborate with other teachers to coordinate curriculum instruction and delivery for grades 9 - 12. Note: this Long Term Substitute position is from approximately October 15, 2024 to January 24, 2025.
Instructional Responsibilities:
Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students and families regarding student learning; Maintain proficiency in school and subject related technologies as appropriate to enhance and deliver instruction; Provide a flexible classroom environment to address the needs of diverse learners in a culture of transition and mobility; Utilize the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework; Engage with students in meaningful activities beyond the classroom which extend learning experiences and meet the needs of students; Supervise students as required by the immediate supervisor; Actively support student’s social emotional learning and well-being by contributing and participating in appropriate activities and programs as required, such as Advisory and Inspire, including chaperoning and leading related trips and activities.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized and accredited university; A valid teaching certificate/license in content area and/or related field; A minimum of two years, current, full-time related teaching experience with demonstrated expertise in subject matter.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching in an international school and/or overseas setting;
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience with standards based grading; Participation in current and relevant professional learning activities and committed to continuous personal and professional growth; Demonstrate focused instruction and assessment of student learning; Be open-minded, eager and willing to collaborate in a team environment in order to plan and prepare for effective instruction within the classroom; Develop and maintain effective working relationships; Represent ASD with students, parents, colleagues, and broader school community in a professional manner.
Terms of Employment: General working hours are from 7:45 am - 3:45 pm, Monday through Thursday and 7:45 am - 12:45 pm (on site) & 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm (remote/flexible) on Fridays. In some cases, flexibility with work hours is requested to meet the needs of the role.
