Description/Job Summary:
The Building People is seeking an Electrician Technician who can perform installation, repair, and maintenance work for commercial buildings. The Maintenance Electrician performs complex technical work, on a journeyman level, in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of electrical systems, equipment, light fixtures and related electro-mechanical systems, in accordance with applicable Electrical Industry Codes. The Electrician inspects and tests elements of electrical systems to locate and diagnose faults and malfunctions performs required repairs through the replacement of inoperative parts or re-wiring of circuits, and provides an estimate of repair(and/or replacement) costs beyond the capability to perform. The Electrician also calculates branch circuit loads, interprets electrical wiring diagrams and schematics, and determines methods and requirements for wiring circuits.
- Contributes to the overall success of the Maintenance Department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Reduces the likelihood of an interruption of electrical power to critical campus operations by monitoring and repairing highly regulated power supplies to computer systems and other facilities requiring constant voltage with minimal fluctuations.
- Reduces the need to purchase new/replacement electric motors by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing single and three-phase electric motors, determining the interchangeability of parts on non-repairable motors, salvaging those parts as a replacement parts inventory, and replacing starter switches, electrical leads, fuses, insulators, gears, bushings and bearings, and other inoperative components from that inventory.
- Contributes to a safe campus environment during the hours of darkness and supports the campus safety and security inspections by servicing and maintaining all exterior lighting on campus, including mercury vapor, high-pressure sodium, fluorescent lamps, and metal halide lamps as assigned. Manages energy-saving efforts by monitoring and adjusting lighting hours and LED upgrades as needed.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Electrician Technician will inspect, maintain, test, modify, adjust, and repair electronic/instrumentation systems, controls, and components at LPOEs.
- Capable of independent decision-making and being able to function with no supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with strong leadership, project management, team building, and presentation skills required.
- Customer service experience
- Experience installing, modifying, testing, repairing, and troubleshooting generators, transformers, converters, regulators, switches, circuit breakers, lightning arresters, lighting ballast, exterior security lighting, mechanical and electronic recording instruments, mechanical and electronic control systems of distribution lines, substations, and power-generating facilities.
- Experience working with building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals.
- Have experience as a technician, or position that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electrical building systems, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electrical equipment.
Required Skills:
- Clear background investigation.
- Clear driver’s license and have reliable transportation to work

- Proficient with Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel, and familiar with CMMS
