The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) located at the Milwaukee, WI, VA Medical Center is seeking a full-time Lead Food Service Worker/Barista to provide quality service to our nation's veterans.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The Lead Food Service Worker has responsibility for control of food service operations and preparation of food in the Canteen Service under the general instructions of the Canteen Chief.
Responsibilities include:
- Ordering food and supplies
- Learning to cover all the different stations as needed to endure a smooth-running department and cover breaks when needed
- Keeping food storage areas clean and organized per sanitation standards,
- Receiving/inventorying/ordering food orders and putting them away timely per VCS standards
- Working with staff to ensure all sanitation standards are met and documented properly daily on production sheets and other logs per VCS sanitation standards are met and documented properly daily on production sheets and other logs per VCS sanitation standards.
- Ability to lead FSW staff with enthusiasm and great customer service
- Will be subjected to hot and cold temperatures.

Requirements:
- Excellent customer service skills
- ServSafe Certification
- Portion control and inventory management
- Basic computer, mathematical, technical skills
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in a cafeteria and/or fast-food environment
- Working knowledge of, and experience with, food service procedures/standards, equipment, and ability to train lower graded workers.
- Knowledge and experience of proper food handling, sanitation principles, proper dating/FIFO, and temperature monitoring to safeguard food against spoilage and waste.
- Ability to organize daily tasks
- Ability to develop and train in a mentor capacity.
- Requires constant standing, walking, and frequent bending.
- Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Vaccination programs are requirements for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment. It is a requirement that all HCP receive the COVID-19 vaccination and annual seasonal influenza vaccination or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons.
