Our Senior Proposal Engineer is responsible for developing technical estimates and written proposals that instill confidence with customers, distinguish us favorably from our competition, and can be profitably executed by Engineering and Operations. This position is also responsible for coordinating all technical activities associated with proposals and maintaining proficiency with automation technologies by performing the following duties.

SUMMARY
Develop technical estimates and written proposals that instill confidence with customers, distinguish us favorably from our competition, and can be profitably executed by Engineering & Operations. Work as part of a proposal team with Account Managers, Sales Engineers, Engineers, and the rest of the company to develop winning proposals. Coordinate all technical activities associated with proposals. Maintain proficiency with automation technologies by attending regular training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates in sales opportunity reviews and assists sales with strategy and technical approach.
Works with Sales Engineers, Applications Engineers, and Project Engineers to develop complete, thoughtful, winning proposals and facilitates proposal process from qualification through approval.
Coordinates proposal process within the team across multiple regions.
Oversees and ensures adequate resources for proposal delivery team.
Works with engineering team to develop technical solutions.
JOB DUTIES
Participates in proposal and project kickoffs.
Works with the supply chain, coordinating efforts so that they can detail the hardware, design labor, and panel shop labor requirements for proposals.
Facilitates the proposal development, ensuring engineering labor estimates are completed.
Provides professional technical proposals, obtaining content and support from other engineers as required.
Assists sales with proposal follow-up activities, such as clarifications, revisions, and closing.
Provides general coordination of technical proposal activities with other departments and partners.
Supports opportunity reporting and data updates in Concept CRM.
Maintains and implements improvements to proprietary company estimating tools, including the estimation spreadsheet.
Maintains proficiency with vendor estimating tools, including Rockwell Automation Proposal Works.
Periodically performs site visits and walk-throughs as part of the proposal process.
Develops a rapport with customers.
Regularly attend technology training to gain knowledge in state-of-the-art automation technologies.
Maintains relationships with automation partners.
Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with customers and coworkers and including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
Respectfully takes direction from manager.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have direct supervisor responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field from four-year college or university; and over ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Job requires specialized computer skills. Must be adept at using various applications including database, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, graphics, word processing, presentation creation/editing, communicate by e-mail and use scheduling software. Ability to learn and use computerized accounting system. Proficient with PLC and HMI programming.
