In Latin America, our economic and social inclusion programs engage thousands of rural, indigenous people. An estimated 78 million people in Latin America live in extreme poverty, up 11 percent after the first year of the Covid pandemic.

 

Position Overview

Trickle Up currently implements projects in Mexico, Guatemala, and Colombia and plans to expand its programming and impact in the region. Trickle Up is in the process of establishing a new regional office for Latin America in Mexico City. Trickle Up is looking for a proactive leader who has experience in economic inclusion programming and can forge new partnerships, develop new programs, raise money, and build a visible, active, and high-impact team across the region. Trickle Up intends to not only expand programming (scale up our impact) but also adapt our implementation model to include more technical assistance to key governmental and NGO partners. One of the key responsibilities of the new Regional Director will be to help establish and lead this office. The Regional Representative has 4 main functions: 1) To provide leadership and accountability in the region, 2) Raise significant funds from a range of donors 3) Build key program partnerships, and 4) Support the team to reach its programmatic and operational goals.

Una de las principales responsabilidades del nuevo director regional será ayudar a establecer y dirigir esta oficina. El Representante Regional tiene 4 funciones principales 1) Proporcionar liderazgo y rendición de cuentas en la región, 2) Recaudar fondos significativos de una serie de donantes 3) Construir asociaciones clave del programa, y 4) Apoyar al equipo para alcanzar sus objetivos programáticos y operativos.

 

Key Responsibilities:

This position, reporting to the VP of Programs, is responsible for strengthening, expanding, and fostering relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including government, corporate and private funders, international and national foundations as well as INGO and local NGO/CBO partners.  S/he will play the lead role in representing Trickle Up in the region, refining the vision for scale and multiplying impact through effective partnerships and policy influence. The Regional Director will be an exemplary leader for the TU team, building a strong, coherent, and dynamic team, modeling TU values, and strengthening our organizational-driven values approach in all aspects of our work. This role is split between externally facing (liaising with donors, partners, and participants) and internally focused (ensuring quality program implementation, supporting staff, setting goals and expectations, planning, etc.). Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Leadership and Accountability

• Support each country and regional office in the development of strategic and operational plans.
• Actively participate in and support the shaping of Trickle Up’s global future. Contribute to becoming a global team.
• With the Program Director, identify and cultivate relationships with potential implementing and strategic partners. Must be able to sign new partnership agreements with a variety of partners.
• Ensure effective, transparent, and efficient use of resources, including human and financial resources. Develop, manage, and monitor budgets that are consistent with best practices and allocated to achieve the greatest impact.
• Act as regional lead on scaling Trickle Up’s impact in the region. This will be done in coordination with the VP of programs, the director of M&E, and the program director in country.
• Increase the visibility of Trickle Up through participation in strategic alliances and key events and publications.
• Strengthen linkages with key government agencies, and international and local NGOs active in livelihood development and/or working with extremely vulnerable and marginalized populations.
• Support Trickle Up’s global initiatives including incorporating climate change and digitization into programs and budgets.
• With the program director, generate opportunities for programmatic innovation and thought leadership.
• Ensure adherence to all of Trickle Up’s policies and procedures in all aspects of Trickle Up’s work in the region.
• Represent Trickle Up at national and international fora.

Fundraising

• With Business Development and US Global, establish and achieve ambitious fundraising goals, including from multilateral, bilateral, individual, and foundation funding opportunities. Raise $2 million / year in new money.
• Identify potential funding partners and pursue resource mobilization for country and regional programming.
• Map potential donors and provide a directional resource mobilization strategy.
• In partnership with US Global staff, develop a wide donor portfolio, particularly targeting foundations, bilateral, and multilateral organizations, and the private sector (CSR).
• Support the development of concept notes with US Global, Business Development, and the Program Director.

Team Management

• Ensure that the regional office has the human resources, processes, and systems required to design and deliver effective and relevant programming for marginalized populations.
• Actively participate in program meetings to support innovation, scaling, and learning.
• Ensure that TU operations conform to all applicable laws and regulations.
• Ensure that all direct reports have clear roles and responsibilities and are held accountable for delivering results.
• Ensure that all direct reports have the support and tools they need to effectively do their jobs well.
• Recruit, train, and support staff.
• Ensure that staff are contributing to the organizational learning agenda.

Required Qualifications:

Education Requirements 

• Master's degree in international development or related fields, including food security, livelihoods, or economic development.

Experience Requirements 

• At least 15 years working in international development, of which 10 are in senior management.

Language Requirements

• Professional-level English and Spanish, both written and spoken.

Other Requirements

• Must be a citizen of Mexico.
• Ability to travel.  Comfortable traveling alone and under occasionally demanding conditions (i.e., in rural areas with basic amenities).

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

• Demonstrated financial management skills (budgeting, financial projections).
• Demonstrated fundraising and representation skills, including being able to pitch to donors, articulate organizational strengths, value-added, etc.
• Demonstrated effective team leadership (creating and strengthening teams, including identifying training needs, how to work most effectively together, setting goals, etc.).

Desired Knowledge and Skills

• Has an established professional network in the country.

Salary and Benefits: We offer a salary between MXN 80,000 and 90,000 monthly for this position. The successful applicant will join a dynamic, passionate, multicultural team deeply committed to the alleviation of extreme poverty.
