About this opportunity
Our client is a Bermuda-based specialist life reinsurer. The Investment Director - Solutions is responsible for leading the development, structuring, and execution of strategic asset-based initiatives for both external and internal business, along with providing support to the investments team in managing the in-force portfolio. This includes responsibility for ALM design, implementation and monitoring along with responsibility for investment operations, overseeing direct reports to ensure data quality is accurate and timely with robust processes.
Principal accountabilities include:
- Lead the development, structuring and execution of strategic asset-based initiatives, and new reinsurance collateral structures across our primary business lines of annuities and protection reinsurance, in Europe and North America and any other relevant territories ensuring they are consistent with all legal, tax, operational and regulatory requirements
- Support the Chief Investment Officer in technical development and implementation of the Strategic Asset Allocation across the Company’s various funds/territories
- Collaborate with the Actuarial and other functions on technical areas related to modelling of the Company's investment portfolio, including that required under regulatory regimes/accounting standards
- Implement and complete operational onboarding of new investment and collateral initiatives into the business-as-usual process, including full documentation and design of appropriate controls, leading the liaison with the Finance and Actuarial functions for new asset and reinsurance collateral onboarding
- Support the regular performance monitoring of the Company’s internal and external investment managers, and Company’s investment risk exposures, including ESG
- Ensure high asset data quality standards are maintained across the Company’s portfolios, working with direct reports to ensure accuracy across the various investment managers and custodians
- Develop and maintain robust governance processes consistent with Group requirements and processes
- Support with the day-to-day management of the Company’s investment portfolios, including liaising with the Treasury function
- Ensure regular collateral processes with cedants are delivered, working with direct reports to monitor and manage positions and implement solutions to improve operational efficiency
- Line manages junior members of the investment team, developing their technical knowledge and professional skills.
What you’ll need
- Fully qualified Life Actuary or CFA, with a minimum of eight years of recent work experience in managing PRT annuity or life insurance business, in an investment, pricing, reporting and/or AML capacity, ensuring best in class delivery of business objectives
- A demonstrated solid understanding of individual and bulk purchase annuity business and longevity swaps
- Robust knowledge of insurance reporting and regulatory frameworks, including Solvency II, IFRS and EBS, including the ability to create financial projection and business models
- Demonstrated ability to understand and apply technical aspects of external regulatory reporting, capital and solvency requirements and IFRS reporting
- A deep commercial awareness and a good understanding of the wider business, economic, market and regulatory environment in which the company operates
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective professional relationships at all levels throughout an organisation, with significant experience in internal stakeholder management and Board-level engagement, preferably within a global organization
