Job Intro
As a Legal Counsel (remote, part-time or full-time), you will be part of the IOTA Foundation’s Legal & Regulatory Affairs team. You will support our day-to-day business and develop innovative solutions to novel legal questions. You will help to ensure the IOTA Foundation’s overall compliance with new and existing regulations and engage with regulators and policy-makers to provide legal certainty to those who want to use the IOTA technology.
Responsibilities & Requirements
Legal Compliance:
- Ensure that IOTA's operations and technology solutions comply with relevant laws and regulations in various jurisdictions.
- Collaborate with internal teams to design and implement policies and procedures to maintain legal compliance.
- Researching and anticipating unique legal issues within the Web3 space that could impact the IOTA Foundation and its Ecosystem and partners.
Legal Certainty for Users:
- Work closely with external stakeholders, including businesses, developers, and users, to provide legal guidance and certainty regarding the use of IOTA's technology.
- Develop educational materials and resources to enhance understanding of legal implications within the IOTA Ecosystem.
Contractual Negotiations:
- Negotiate and draft various agreements, including partnership agreements, licensing agreements, and contracts with third-party vendors, ensuring legal protections and compliance.
- Advising on contract status, legal risks, and the legal liabilities associated with different partnerships and commercial arrangements;
- Establishing and overseeing legally compliant employment practices and freelancer arrangements
Dispute Resolution:
- Manage legal aspects of disputes or conflicts that may arise, seeking resolutions through negotiation, mediation, or other appropriate means.
- Collaborate with external legal counsel when necessary.
Policy Development:
- Contribute to the development of internal policies and guidelines to align with legal requirements and industry best practices.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with technical teams to understand the intricacies of IOTA's technology and its legal implications.
- Work closely with technology adoption, communications, and marketing teams to align legal strategies with organizational goals.
Regulatory Engagement:
- Monitor and analyze regulatory developments globally, providing insights and recommendations to the organization and Associations of which IOTA is a member.
Skills & Qualifications
- 4+ years of significant experience as legal counsel, preferably within the Web3 space
- Common Law Background
- Master's Degree in Law and Bar exam
- Strong knowledge of global legal and regulatory landscapes related to blockchain and DLT
- You are proactive and you feel comfortable working in a full remote setup
- You are a great communicator and a team player
- High level of fluency in spoken and written English
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with smart contracts, decentralized applications (DApps), and tokenization
- Experience working in an international and cross-functional environment
- Passion for decentralized technologies
- High level of fluency in spoken and written German
