For many years, we've been providing mainstream internet and IT services as Spectrum Internet and Net Support UK. We rebranded to Ogi to represent our dedication to Welsh communities and received a significant multi-million-pound investment to deliver a large-scale and ambitious rollout of full-fibre internet across South Wales.We're searching for a highly experience, senior, data communications professional with extensive experience of working on large and complex networks. About you…This role isn’t for everyone; we’re a fast-paced start-up and a team who live and breathe technology. In terms of background its likely you will have spent many years working at a strategic/architecture level designing data networks, but must also be ‘hands on’ and equally comfortable building, configuring and troubleshooting on live networks.We place a strong emphasis on attitude, passion for technology, and the idea that "it's okay" is never good enough. This role will include defining and documenting the strategic direction for the Ogi active network, selecting vendors and presenting to the Executive Management team and Investors to gain budgetary approval.With this in mind we are looking for someone who is an excellent communicator and can prioritise their workload. Attitude is key. We want to talk to people who are senior with experience at this level but are also eager to learn and be challenged!Importantly you will provide technical leadership for all of the Ogi team working on the active network across various teams.. As the most senior engineer on the active network you should be an inspirational role model for others.You’ll have experience within Telco/Mobile/ISP environment or a Telco equipment manufacturer/Service Provider as well as have experience with -* Network service delivery from strategy, through high level design into implementation, testing and operational support.* Deep knowledge of IPv4/v6, IPsec, MPLS, IP QoS, SD-WAN, routing protocols (such as BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, EIGRP, PBR), multicast, switching protocols, DWDM/CWDMWDM, passive optical networking (GPON/XGS-PON etc) and LAN protocols* Experience of working with leading datacomms platforms (Cisco IOS, Juniper JUNOS, Nokia OS etc.)* Scripting/Programming skills* Knowledge of passive network construction techniques/topology* Deep knowledge of securing communications networksWhat you’ll be doing…We are looking for a talented, technical engineer and if you have been working in a role like this previously then you’ll know how to work at pace and under pressure as well as the variety involved in a role like this.The core of this role is to define and document the strategy for the optical backhaul network, layer3 and layer 2 aggregation network, PON and P2P access network. You’ll also work on transit/peering, DCN/OOB management, Interior and Exterior routing protocols, IP addressing (including use of DS-Lite and CG-NAT), naming and labelling conventions, security/DDoS prevention, exchange unbundling, CPE/NTE, VoIP services, capacity management assumptions, DNS, DHCP, caching, network management, provisioning, automation, integration into OSS/BSS, operations & maintenance.The role will involve the creation ownership of High-level designs, plus assisting the Network Engineering team with peer review of low level designs and the practical implementation of those designs. Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to:* Conduct vendor selection activity* Present at Board/Exec level to secure approval of the strategy, vendor selection and budget* Produce High Level design documentation for all of the above* Work closely with the Network Engineering team on translating your high level design into low level design, testing, build/configure/rollout and third-line faults. This will include peer review, coaching and hands-on assistance.* Work closely with the Chief Engineer (Passive Network) to ensure close alignment between the active and passive network strategy.* Work closely with the Chief Engineer (Passive Network), the Network Build team and other operators to looks at options for, and secure backhaul connectivity e.g. high capacity managed capacity (wavelengths), dark fibre, or our own fibre build (a mixture of Civils or PIA)* P0 Operational incident support (i.e. 3rd line escalations)* Work with our Director of Network Operations to maintain our test and innovation facility for both the passive and active networkOne thing you should know is that we are a company that will support your growth, build your skills, recognise, and reward you for being part of a team that prides itself on being inquisitive, intuitive, and supportive of our successes and failures as one team.Next Steps?Please get in touch for a confidential chat.
