We deliver creative infrastructure solutions for building projects for industry, government, commercial and leisure sectors by providing input to projects ranging from the largest regeneration projects in the UK to smaller housing and commercial developments. We work for both private and public sector clients, most of whom return to us for our experience of the industry and knowledge of their requirements.We are currently seeking exceptional candidates for a Civil Engineering Technician Apprentice / Trainee role within our Chesterfield office. This is a wonderful opportunity to join our growing design team receiving on the job training working on a wide range of civil engineering projects across the region and beyond whilst being allocated a senior engineer or senior technician who will provide mentoring during the development period.Successful applicants will continually develop their skills in civil engineering with the aim of becoming a world class civil engineering engineer and will be supported at college (usually one day per week at a recognised provider) in order to hone technical skills (ensuring real opportunities for personal growth and career progression). We also run a variety of in-house training sessions.We work across all construction stages, from pre-feasibility through feasibility, design and construction and across a wide range of sectors including - Housing Developments, Retail & Commercial, Airports and Education. Our work includes:Engagement in masterplan developmentContributions to Transport Assessments and EIA processPreparation of surface water drainage strategies and flood risk assessmentsPreparation of foul water drainage strategies and utility appraisalsSite levels design and cut/fill analysis to optimise use of materials on siteFeasibility and highway route studiesHighway designJunction designTraffic management planningPavement analysis and designDrainage analysis and designUtility layout and diversion designStreetscape (street lighting, fencing, traffic signals and traffic sign) designCoordination of designs with the project team in 3d as part of BIMLiaising with authorities to secure approval for the designsContract Administration and SupervisionJob Responsibilities:Production of CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawingsPreparation of simple civil engineering calculationsSupporting the administration of projects, including maintaining recordsAssisting with data review and analysisEnsuring outputs are accurate and meet the required standardsMeeting agreed deadlinesWorking as a member of a teamContributing to providing solutions to problemsQualificationsNo experience is necessary but the position is ideally suited to school leavers at A level standard (or equivalent) who can demonstrate:Minimum of 3 A-Levels at / predicted grade C or above, including Mathematics and Science, and/or Completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Civil Engineering TechnicianMinimum five GCSEs at Grade A-C including Mathematics, English Language and Double or Triple ScienceShow an aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D software.Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career specifically within Civil Engineering.Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic.Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organise parts of projects.English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports.To apply for this role, please include a CV & Covering LetterAdditional InformationAll your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.With infrastructure investment accelerating worldwide, our services are in great demand, and theres never been a better time to be at AECOM!
