Financial Controller East Midland Zoological Society has been running Twycross Zoo for 60 years in the heart of England in Atherstone. We are an award-winning conservation and science-led zoo, and are a registered charity, welcoming over half a million people every year. The Role Financial Controller Reporting to and supporting the Finance Director, as the Financial Controller you will manage the day-to-day finance function, working in a regulatory environment to tight deadlines. You will be part of the operational management team as a key finance business partner providing detailed and useful financial insights for informed decision making. You will oversee the Management Accountant and our Transactional Finance Assistants, whom youll manage, develop and motivate to achieve financial excellence. Your responsibilities will also include although not be limited to: Leading the monthly management accounts timetable, producing consolidated management accounts for the main company and trading subsidiary Managing completion of regular balance sheet reconciliations Leading on the production and analysis of operational financial KPIs Preparing 12 month rolling cashflow forecasts for review by the Executive Team Leading the budgeting process, including liaising with budget holders Managing payroll with an outsourced provider Overseeing the cash office, transactional purchase and sales ledgers, and stock control processes Overseeing the monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting cycles to budget holders and Trustees Leading on compliance, preparation and reporting of VAT and Gift Aid claims and submissions Managing the annual audit, including preparing financial statements in compliance with relevant Charity SORP and accounting standards Reviewing, developing and improving financial processes and procedures Our Requirements Financial Controller Proven experience gained as a Financial Controller with working knowledge of consolidation accounting and reporting Superb leadership skills with proven experience effectively leading and managing a team Experience in developing budgets and financial plans and reporting on performance Good understanding of VAT and PAYE and experience completing relevant returns Experience owning audit process and relationship Detail orientated and able to communicate at senior level with a straight-forward approach to aid informed decisions Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships at levels Proficient user of Microsoft Excel and accounting software Although not essential, either an ACCA/CIMA/ACA qualification, and/or experience with charity accounting, would be highly advantageous. This is an exciting time to join Twycross Zoo as we have recently been awarded £20m grant funding to develop the National Science and Conservation Centre (NSCC) on the Twycross Zoo site. The NSCC will support vital work around species conservation. It will bring together experts in conservation science and train the next generation of conservationists, whilst offering researchers from around the world the opportunity to study the four great apes and other endangered species, in naturalistic complex environments. The facilities will include a lecture theatre, classrooms, and laboratories, all planned to open in 2024.
