Java Developer Position, 37.5 hours per week, flexible & hybrid working. Based in Crawley. Your new role Our client is looking for an experienced Java Web Developer to join our Earth Data team! As a Java Web Developer, reporting to the Software Development Team Lead, you will be expected to participate in the design, planning and successful delivery of web-based software applications and services that will be used internally within the company and for use by external clients. You may be occasionally required to take the lead on software development projects or sub-projects when required by coordinating with stakeholders and advising or supporting the other members of the development team. You will also be required to provide 2nd/3rd line support and training to the client support team. What you'll need to succeed Relevant qualification in any of the following disciplines: Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or related subject Key Skills & Competencies: A strong passion for programming, technology and enthusiasm for analytical and problem solving challenges. Competent in the Java programming language. Familiarity with Java EE/Jakarta EE (focusing on web tier: JSF, PrimeFaces). Knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript & JQuery. Understanding of RDBMS including database design and SQL query syntax (PostgreSQL). Awareness of web servers (Tomcat\WildFly) and their management. Experience with web-based Geographic Information Systems (ESRI ArcGIS\Geoserver). Proficient in the Linux operating system (CLI & Bash scripting) Experience creating and consuming web-based API's. Familiarity with development tools such as VCS, Testing Tools/Frameworks, Build Tools/Servers, Issue Management, IDE's (NetBeans\Eclipse\IntelliJ). Experience with JIRA\Confluence. Familiar with UI wireframing tools (eg. Figma). Knowledge of Agile software.
