Packaging Engineer Screening and Compliance

My name is Bill Stevens and I have a new six month plus Packaging Engineer position with Screening and Compliance experience for a major firm located in Chicago, Illinois at Goose Island that could be of interest to you, please review my specification below and I am available at any time to speak with you so please feel free to call me. The work schedule will be a hybrid one, three days a week in the office and two days remote. The ideal candidate should also possess a green card or be of citizenship. No Visa entanglements.

This position pays $36.00 per hour on a w-2 hourly basis.

Overview:
As a member of the firms Scientific & Regulatory Affairs (SRA), the ideal candidate will be responsible for leading regulatory risk assessment and mitigation of global innovation projects related to packaging. Accurate and complete packaging information is the foundation for regulatory compliance of the finished package. This position proactively partners with innovation stakeholders and Regional SRA experts to identify potential regulatory risks and works to bring solutions to the table to enable innovation while ensuring compliance. Success in this role will require stakeholder management and collaboration at a global and regional level, both within the SRA function and cross-functionally. The incumbent will work closely with other global and regional SRA associates to evaluate performance against the metrics and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:
Serves as a point of contact for global agile innovation business stakeholders (e.g. R&D, Marketing) for new packaging materials
Assist with the compliance of packaging material for food products.
Evaluate and risk assess food contact materials against global regulatory compliance.
Engage with a network of packaging suppliers to gather screeners and regulatory documentation.
Assess the chemical makeup of the packaging.
Review analytical testing to ensure compliant food packaging.
Knowledgeable in relevant local legislations related to food packaging.
Familiar with the components and manufacturing processes of flexible, rigid, and paperboard packaging.
Provides scientific and regulatory advice on route to market for new innovations, working with external experts where needed for new categories or channels
Communicates project highlights and key regulatory issues with SRA community for broader team visibility, understanding and learning.

Context and Scope:
The incumbent applies technical, organizational, and project managerial skills broadly to screen and approve packaging materials and collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders in regional SRA, packaging R&D, legal, commercial and supply teams.
The incumbent works with a high level of independence, based on regulatory knowledge and experience, to make decisions and deploy best practices that assure global compliance of packaging materials and mitigate regulatory risks.

Education:
Minimum: A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Food Science, Packaging, Food Safety, or Food Process Engineering is required.

Knowledge/Experience:
2-3 years of experience in regulatory affairs at a food, beverage, or consumer products company is required
International regulatory experience is a preferred
Experience working with packaging and packaging compliance is preferred
Sustainability experience is preferred
High degree of ownership with strong sense of urgency and an action-biased, positive attitude
Good critical thinking, able to operate independently
Demonstrated team collaboration competencies, with strong organization and complex problem solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, self-directed, forward thinking, and ability to make recommendations with limited information/data
Ability to quickly adapt, learn on the fly and understand complex processes and concepts
Ability to challenge status quo of current ways of working to build robust new ideas
