Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX:
As Manager, Merchandise Planning you lead the long and short-term strategies to improve the overall Merchandise Plan for your assigned categories. Your primary objectives include optimizing product availability, maximizing sales potential and minimizing excess inventories as key in-season KPI’s. You represent Merchandise Planning through the GTM (Go-to-Market) process, helping to bring the design and merchandising product visions to life in all global channels. You are both a leader and a collaborator, enhancing the planning strategy and overseeing execution cross functionally.
This role is based out of our North Vancouver office and is open to hybrid remote work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

The Merchandise Planning & Allocations team is a cross functional group whose focus is to continuously drive sales and margin, while mitigating inventory risks by finding the balance between the right product, at the right quantity, in the right place, at the right time.
If you were in the Manager, Merchandise Planning role now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:
- Collaborating with the Director of Merchandise Planning to develop long term and seasonal Merchandise plans for your assigned categories that drives the merchant vision, achieves sales targets, optimizes gross margin and drives product sell through
- Building and coaching a high performing Merchandise Planning team to deliver against this strategy and drive operational excellence
- Leading strategy and action on all Open to Buy (OTB) decision making for your assigned categories
- Driving collaboration across Merchandising, Design, and Finance to build Merchandise plans and financial targets that line up with our Long Term Strategic Plan (LTSP)
- Partnering with merchants on product assortments, and article-level forecasts to meet sales and purchase plan targets to drive a best in class guest experience
- Leading the Demand Review within the S&OP process for your categories, channels and/or markets, while collaborating with other stakeholders to ensure a globally coordinated plan
- Collaborating closely with Supply Planning and Global Planning teams to develop a procurement strategy for assigned product categories, reconciling the supply chain constraints against the buy plan
- Partnering with Global Planning to support inventory goals and objectives without comprising service levels, including Open to Buy tracking and other relevant inventory initiatives
- Contributing on behalf of wider Planning function within the GTM process and working closely with cross functional partners to support process timeline and discipline
- Monitoring inventory levels, sales performance, and product trends to make informed recommendations for inventory replenishment and allocations teams
- Identifying opportunities for inventory optimization through stock transfers and markdowns
- Staying abreast of industry best practices, emerging trends, and new technologies in Merchandise Planning and retail analytics to continuously improve processes and drive business results
Here are some of the things you could be working on in the future:
- Applying KPIs to measure Merchandise Planning accuracy and reporting on these as required, providing trends and analysis and getting to the root cause of any issues
- Identifying and presenting omni channel sales opportunities through inventory gluts to all commercial stakeholders
- Supporting with system integration and tool development, working closely with Business Process leadership in pre-implementation planning, including Vendor selection feedback, roll-out strategy, and internal stakeholder engagement
- Assisting with reporting development, working closely with Data and Analytics functions to buildout efficient ways of working
Are you our next Manager, Merchandise Planning
- You have a university degree in Math, Economics, or Business
- You have 5+ years’ Merchandise Planning or financial modeling experience, along with a minimum of 2+ years’ experience working in a vertical retail model
- You have 3+ years’ experience in people leadership
- You have working knowledge of sales forecasting, demand planning, strong analytical capabilities, and business savviness
- You have strong leadership, interpersonal, facilitation and mentoring abilities
- You have the ability to think both strategically and tactically, with the ability exert tactful influence within the organization
- You have excellent communication skills with the ability to relate to all levels of stakeholders, including executive presentations
- You set a clear vision, align your team around common objectives, and foster commitment to these objectives
- You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing solutions
- You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
- You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration
