RADIATION EFFECTS TEST SPECIALIST

As a member of our fast-paced Radiation Effects team, you will be responsible for ensuring avionics hardware performance through some of the harshest and varied radiation environments imaginable. In order to ensure maximum reliability in an ionizing radiation environment, the Radiation Effects team performs exhaustive analysis, design, and test at the component, board, unit and subsystem levels with extensive opportunity to interact with a vast array of rocket and spacecraft hardware and electronics. As one of the few teams required to interface with the design, manufacturing, integration, and mission operations teams we play a critical role in the development of our systems as we advance our efforts towards broadband satellite internet and safe, reliable, inexpensive, and innovative access to space with the fundamental goal of expanding human space exploration capabilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work directly with radiation engineers to prepare avionics units (hardware and software) for radiation testing
  • Fabricate and assemble high quality, high reliability wire harness, and electromechanical assemblies
  • Develop basic test execution and data collection scripts
  • Perform basic PCBA layout and design
  • Design and construct harnessing and test racks/fixtures
  • Setup and use electronics equipment (programmable power supplies, DMMs, oscilloscopes, etc.)
  • Solder and repair at the PCB integrated circuit and component level
  • Self-monitor work progress against area benchmarks and achieve on time delivery of all work
  • Read, interpret, and work from drawings and from controlled documentation and processes:
    • Cable harnesses: wiring diagrams and layout drawings
    • Basic electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and parts lists
  • Assist writing test plans, test procedures, and test reports against product requirements
  • Record work performed on shop floor management system (ERP), and use e-mail (MS Outlook)
  • Perform verification of flight hardware and documenting results in a clear, precise, and complete manner

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate 
  • 1+ years of experience with SMT/through-hole soldering and desoldering
  • 1+ years of professional experience using electronics equipment (programmable power supplies, DMMs, oscilloscopes, etc.) and basic mechanical and/or electronics hand tools

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree in electronics engineering 
  • Certification on IPC-J-STD-001 or similar
  • 2+ years of professional experience manufacturing wire harnesses in commercial, automotive, or aerospace industry
  • Experience in fast-paced production environment working with flight hardware
  • Experience adapting to constant changing work assignments and fast paced work environment
  • Experience with written/verbal communication and teamwork
  • Experience having attention to detail with outstanding work efficiency and accuracy
  • Experience working with all operating systems including Unix, Linux, and Windows
  • Experience troubleshooting independently with minimum direction
  • Experience making recommendations for design, process improvements, and data collection
  • Experience independently modifying/fabricating necessary test peripherals to help with testing logistics
  • Experience fabricating harnesses, electro-mechanical assemblies, or development of prototypes
  • Experience with electrical schematics

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability to distinguish colors
  • Willing to work overtime hours and weekends to support critical project and mission milestones
  • Ability to comply with all radiation regulatory requirements for radiation safety. Radiation safety training is not a prerequisite
  • Must be willing to travel – up to 10%

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:            

Pay range:         

Radiation Effects Test Specialist/Level 1: $32.00 - $40.00/hour   

Radiation Effects Test Specialist/Level 2: $36.00 - $45.00/hour   

Radiation Effects Test Specialist/Level 3: $40.00 - $50.00/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
