Lead Data Engineer

Position Overview:

As a manager of the Data Engineering team, you will bring extensive experience to lead and mentor a team of junior data engineers. You will oversee and participate in the design, construction, and maintenance of robust data pipelines and ETL processes. You will have strong programming skills in Python as well as strong familiarity with AWS technologies, including Infrastructure as Code and key services such as S3, KMS, Glue/EMR, SNS, SQS, and Athena. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the overall data engineering strategy, optimizing processes, and providing strategic guidance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor a team of junior data engineers, providing guidance, support, and technical expertise.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the data engineering team, ensuring the successful execution of projects and initiatives.
• Data Engineering Strategy
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the overall data engineering strategy, aligning with organizational goals.
  • Drive the optimization of data processes, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and adherence to best practices.
• Collaboration and Training
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and IT, to ensure seamless integration of data solutions.
  • Directly manage and provide training to junior data engineers, fostering their professional growth and development.
• Project Management
  • Oversee the planning and execution of data engineering projects, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand project requirements and align deliverables with organizational objectives.
• Optimization and Innovation
  • Continuously evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies to enhance data engineering capabilities.
  • Drive innovation within the team, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

 

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of leadership.
• Strong programming skills in Python and extensive experience with AWS, including Infrastructure as Code and key services such as S3, KMS, Glue/EMR, SNS, SQS, and Athena.
• Experience working with Data Warehouse solutions, including Snowflake and/or Redshift.
• Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow and/or Dagster.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team, providing technical guidance and fostering professional development.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
