Black & McDonald’s Facilities Management & Operations team in BC is growing! The FMO Electrician position is located at Kelowna General Hospital in Kelowna, BC and reports directly to the Chief Engineer, Facility Supervisor & Facility Manager.
Under specific direction, , the FMO Electrician responds to tenant requests, performs preventive maintenance inspections and makes repairs to ensure continuing operation. The position also requires compliance with Black & McDonald codes of conduct, health, safety and environmental policies and safe work practices along with any client specific protocol. This position is based on a Monday-Friday day shift schedule with participation in the on-call after hours rotation.
- Respond to tenant requests & improvements
- Preform preventative maintenance duties as assigned
- Respond with the team on demand and in emergency to address issues promptly
- Perform maintenance and repair duties to a variety of electrical systems such as;
- Motors, VSD’s, breakers, control circuits, fixtures, appliances, lighting
- Generators, Chillers, AHU’s, Medical Air systems
- Electrical & electro/pneumatic control devices
- Oversee HV breaker, generator and power distribution servicing
- Perform routine inspections and tests on building electrical vaults and related electrical equipment
- Ensure annual electrical service requirements are met and documented
- Participate in generator testing and other electrical repairs and preventative maintenance as required
- Provide technical expertise to project work as required
- Ensure all work areas are maintained in a clean and safe working condition
- Ensure availability of inventoried parts for maintenance of system equipment
- Ensure standard operating procedures, preventative maintenance activities and any other relevant guidelines are maintained, stored correctly and strictly adhered to with suggestions offered to update as appropriate
- Ensure that any required documentation is accurate and complete
- Regularly communicate health, safety and environmental issues or concerns
- Ensure “Toolbox Talks” and other related information is clearly understood and effectively communicated to the relevant parties
- Ensure a safe working environment and adhere to all relevant health, safety and environmental policies and procedures by all stakeholders
- Other duties as required to ensure stable and safe operation of facilities

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Red Seal Electrician Certification required
- FSR B Certification required
- The following certifications/designations would be considered an asset:
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Experience as an electrician in a health care facility or commercial building operation
- Strong background and hands on experience repairing various items; Mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, Electrical, or DDC control systems
- Experience in high voltage distribution systems would be an asset
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Blueprint reading
- Understanding of practices, procedures and techniques
- Organization and time management skills
- Proficient user of:
- MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
- JD Edwards or an Oracle-based ERP system
- DSI platform
- Must have valid BC Driver’s License
- Must be able to pass RCMP Criminal Record Check
- Must be able to work in confined spaces
- Must be able to lift up to 30 kg (bending and lifting is required)
Expected compensation for this role is a starting pay range between $44.45-$47.40/hour in accordance with union rates (dependent on skills and experience and trade certifications).
