General Summary
The Sr Media Software Engineer will work with members of the Core Technology department to develop and maintain applications and tools at the core of the studio’s pipeline. This position will be responsible for leading the development of tooling and core software extension for editorial, production assets management, transcoding, mastering, finishing, and transport systems for the studio.
Job Functions
- Lead the design and development of updates to our editorial software ecosystem.
- Shepherd the ACES color model within the studio and advocate for our needs, bugs reporting, and feature requests within the industry.
- Collaborate with the various ShotGrid teams to extract cut info using OTIO.
- Investigate, analyze, resolve, and document software and hardware performance improvement opportunities for the production and post-production environments.
- Offer expertise in the development and establishment of core tools and APIs.
- Support applications through documentation, training, and handling user questions.
- Participate in Agile sprint activities such as requirement gathering, sprint planning, backlog refinement, ticket/board grooming, story-pointing, launches, stand-ups, retros, and reviews.
- Follow established Core Technology department processes and procedures of the software development life cycle, build and release system, and code and testing standards.
- Design and deploy software and systems in production timelines with high availability, and clear observability.
- Author tools and leverage open source to automate tasks with an emphasis on reliability and repeatability.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in applied software development or engineering experience in a studio setting.
- 10+ years of experience with post-production software and tools (e.g. Resolve, Baselight, Avid, FFMPEG, Vantage, etc.);experience with high performance production storage solutions (Quantum, Avid Nexis, Qumulo), a plus.
- Proficiency in two or more of these languages: Python, JavaScript, Rust, C++, C#, Swift Zig and Perl; experience with Event Driven Architecture, a plus.
- Deep understanding of the various media file formats and codecs (e.g. ProRes, DNxHD, MXF, IMF, MP4, HEVC, J2K, USD, etc.).
- Familiarity with ASWF projects such as OCIO and OTIO.
- Experience with SDLC concepts and methodologies including managing build/release via CI/CD, version control discipline, and SCM tools such as Git, GitLab, and Perforce.
- Experience with Package Management in a Film/VFX/Animation production environment, preferred.
- Accelerated Media File Transport Solutions (e.g. Signiant, Aspera, s5cmd).
- Deep understanding of SDI, NDI, IP, and PCoIP standards.
- Experience working in public cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Knowledge in Container Platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
- Thorough understanding of ontology, strata, and metadata.
- Familiarity with the digital archival process, and the various SLAs influenced by moving the assets to different mediums of storage.

Location
On-site in Hillsboro, OR, and also eligible for hybrid and/or remote work.
