Position: Underwriting Analyst - Build to Rent Communities

Working Hours: 8 am to 5 pm CST

Salary Range: 1,800 to 2,500 USD Monthly

Hello LatAm, We are Support Shepherd, a premier headhunter agency dedicated to sourcing top-tier international talent for our esteemed clients. We are actively searching for a skilled to become an integral part of our client's dynamic team.

As an Underwriting Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in identifying, evaluating, and acquiring parcels for our Build to Rent community development projects in the Houston area. You will leverage your expertise in real estate acquisitions, market analysis, and negotiation to identify strategic opportunities and secure land parcels that align with our development objectives.

Duties and responsibilities:

1. Market Analysis: Conduct comprehensive market research to identify potential land acquisition opportunities in the Houston metropolitan area. Analyze market trends, demographic data, and economic indicators to assess demand for rental properties and identify target neighborhoods for development.

2. Property Identification: Proactively search for suitable land parcels that meet the criteria for Build to Rent community development. Evaluate properties based on factors such as location, zoning regulations, access to amenities, and potential for future growth.

3. Due Diligence: Conduct thorough due diligence on prospective properties to assess their suitability for development. Evaluate legal, environmental, and regulatory factors that may impact the acquisition process. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including legal advisors, environmental consultants, and surveyors, to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

4. Financial Analysis: 

i. Conduct comprehensive financial analysis of BTR projects, including cash flow projections, construction costs, operating expenses, and investment returns.

ii. Evaluate market conditions and demographic trends in Houston to assess the demand for rental properties and identify strategic opportunities for development.

iii. Perform due diligence on potential BTR projects, including reviewing legal documents, permits, regulatory compliance, and zoning ordinances.

iv. Collaborate with developers, investors, and lenders to structure financing deals for BTR projects, negotiating terms and conditions to optimize returns and mitigate risks.

v. Stay updated on changes in legislation, industry standards, and market trends that may impact BTR developments in Houston.

vi. Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate risks associated with BTR projects, such as construction delays, cost overruns, and economic fluctuations.

vii. Prepare comprehensive underwriting reports and presentations for internal stakeholders, investors, and lenders to support decision-making processes.

viii. Foster strong relationships with external partners, including lenders, investors, government agencies, and other stakeholders involved in BTR projects.

5. Negotiation: Negotiate purchase agreements with property owners, developers, and brokers to acquire land parcels at favorable terms for the firm. Use your negotiation skills to secure competitive pricing, favorable financing arrangements, and favorable contractual terms that mitigate risks and enhance the profitability of development projects.

6. Project Coordination: Collaborate with internal project teams, including development, construction, and property management, to facilitate the successful execution of land acquisition projects. Provide support throughout the development process, including zoning approvals, permitting, and entitlements, to ensure timely and efficient project delivery.


  • Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in real estate acquisitions, land development, or related field, with a proven track record of successful land acquisitions in the Houston market.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to perform financial analysis, market research, and due diligence on prospective properties.
  • Strong negotiation skills, with experience negotiating purchase agreements, contracts, and financing arrangements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and real estate analysis software.
